This novel covers Noah and Meredith partnering up to capture the escaped villains of Level 5. The comic opens at a facility where Mohinders cocooned victims are being cleaned up and will be detained until the Haitian arrives back in the country. Noah gets a call and the two of them are assigned to bring in Danny Pine, who is the vietnam vet we saw from the show who can turn his arm to steel.
Noah and Meredith arrive at the house of Danny’s son and Noah goes in through the front and tells Meredith to take the back. Meredith enters the house to see Noah in a standoff holding Danny’s son hostage and brandishing his gun against Danny. Meredith tells Noah to leave the kid out of this and Noah brushes her off. Meredith uses her fire to create a makeshift Molotov cocktail and throw at at the angry and veteran with the now solid steel arm.
The fire sets off the sprinkler system and Danny begins to attack Meredith, meanwhile Meredith challenges Noah about what he did by taking Claire, and Noah explains he doesn’t regret any of it and that Claire is the best thing that ever happened to him. Meredith who felt sorry for Danny at first discovers that Danny killed his ex-wife and left her bleeding body in another room. She realizes that she would not have been a stable and good mother for Claire, but wishes it had been her choice to give her up.
The both reveal that they won’t be partners after this last mission any further.
This issue just further reveals how much Meredith wishes she hadn’t given up Claire and also shows how Noah doesn’t want anyone to take Claire from him and his family.
