Finding the right Niche makes your job as an internet marketer so much easier, the right niche can mean easy rankings, money and something you enjoy writing about. Finding these niches is not easy buy they do still exist, knowing what to look for and where to find is what is important.

Here are 5 tricks I use to try and find new niches, please feel free to use and abuse as you wish.

Let The Niche Find You.

Many bloggers write about their passions and hobbies without the intention of trying to make money, they don’t do it because the competition is poor or because there is a high CPC, they enter a niche because it is something they like and enjoy writing about, it’s usually only after their readership grows they realize that they can make money from what they are writing about.

News and Hot Topics.

I like to write about tech and subsequently I try and find tech related niches. To do this I need to  keep up to date with the latest tech news, if a new product has been leaked or is due to launched, hopefully I will know about it. If you can get a really good exact match domain name for this new product you can rank easily, be one of the first to the market, turn your site into an authority and see a decent amount of commission from the traffic your site gets.

Print Media

Looking through the wall of magazines in your local newsagents can help to give you an idea of what hobbies and pursuits are really popular, on my last visit I counted 6 different magazines about shooting and hunting, countless about fishing and pretty much every other possible hobby and passtime that can imagined. What I look for here is some obscure mag that you’ll find it tough to imagine that there is a market for it.

Site Auctions

I spend hours each week looking through the different auction sites like Flippa and Websitebroker. Bargains on these sites are hard to come by, but I’m not looking for a bargain, what I’m looking for are sites that are making decent commission each month and whether I can move into that niche. The great thing about these auction sites is that they take most of the guess work out of launching a new site.  The sellers freely post their traffic, commissions and the keywords they rank for.

Browsing

With thousands of possible niches out there and new ones opening up daily, whenever you are just surfing the web there’s always a good chance you will find a niche that is relatively untapped. They’re still out there but they are getting a little tougher to find.

Before you jump into a new niche you’ll first need to ask yourself if you have the skills and experience necessary to compete in that market, in mature markets much of the competition will have had a head start on you. You need to be confident in your abilities to compete with these sites. If you are just starting out as an internet marketer I think it’s best to look at new niches that have just opened. The best examples I can give are new product launches.

When the iPad was launched it opened up a host of new niches, like iPad speakers, iPad cases, iPad accessories. Even though this was a new niche it was wasn’t long before things started to get crowded but if you can grab a good exact match domain you’ll have a good chance of competing.

The iPad was just an example, with any new product launch there is a good chance that a new niche will be opened behind it and if the niche is brand new the competition is also brand new so you’re all starting on a level playing field, it’s then a case of who can take advantage first.

So finding a niche isn’t that hard, finding the time to work on these niches is where everything get difficult.
