Automatic Email From Leaving Blog Comment

If your life is not going so well then this article can help you in many ways. This post is very interesting, especially these days. I think the only two places where you can find real informations are blogs and forums.

I actually wrote back to two of such auto-thank you emails just to ask how they did it – both of them said I was the first one to write back, but it was obvious that it was auto-generated.

I hate auto email. When I meet these emails, I will delete them at once with anger.

I agree with you, most of the times I subscribe and see follow up comments in less time than the autoreply, or if I didn’t subscribe I really don’t care about the follow up. I won’t be adding such a plugin.

I have been planning on writing about this very topic as well as the auto checked "subscribe" button. I find both to be very annoying, especially to someone like myself that uses my Blackberry for business.

Having annoying emails come in from blogs is the last thing I feel like dealing with in addition to my other emails that are important coming in.

I don't meen to be pushy, but I was wondering if you could find my comment that got lost in your spam queue around 3:33 pm yesterday? It was a long comment, would be sad to see it disappear :(

I vote "nay", to such plugin.

I was sooo close to adding one myself, about a month ago. But after careful consideration, I decided that there would be too many cases where the reader would think "wtf".

For instance: Say you comment on my blog and I have the plugin set up to auto-thank you 24 hours after. But after just 20 hours, I reply to your comment - and you receive an email. 4 hours later, you receive an e-mail saying "thank you for your comment"... that's a "wtf?".

Or if somebody posts as "Klaus" (hey, just like me!) - wouldn't I think "wtf" if I received a "personal" e-mail from the blog owner starting out with "Hey Klaus"? Yes I would.

Ok, 'nuff rambling. What I prefer to do is offer the "reply to comment"-plugin, in addition with the "subscribe to comments". I then leave the "reply to comment"-plugin stay enabled per default, then the commentator will only receive an e-mail if somebody replies *directly* to his comment, and not when everybody else writes a comment to the same post.

I know that ExtremeJohn.com offers something similar (the same plugin, I think), but his site does not offer the user the ability to disable the notifications. I might add that too at some point, but for now I don't mind allowing visitors to decide.

The "subscribe to comments" plugin that e-mails on *all following comments* should of course always be up to the commentator to decide if they want it or not - and it should, imho, be unchecked per default.

I personally find it highly annoying and unwanted. I always check the box to get notified when theres a new comment. I don't need an auto email.

I personally think that if someone leaves a comment on your blog and they are interested in coming back they will always click the "Notify me" box so that they can follow the post they have posted on, these email systems are probably only of use to commentators that only comment once just to try and get a link back and you never see them again..

As for me, I'm attention starved and eager for any attention I can get. There may be no real benefit from the email to me but I get so few that it breaks the monotony. Then also, I tend to forget where I have wandered on the web. I may have likes a sight, left a comment and then forgotten where it was so it is a good second chance for me to log the address or subscribe
