gogreen420 How The Average Home Computer User Can Go Green

So, you want to know how you can save a little on your electric bill and how you can go a little more green as an average home computer user or blogger? Well these simple steps will help you go green and save some money overall on your electric bill.

Step 1 – If you are using an old fashioned CRT monitor, ditch it and get yourself an LCD. LCD monitors have drastically come down in price and save bundles of power with fewer toxic chemicals used compared to a CRT monitor.

Step 2 – Replace all light bulbs in your office (and whole house) with Compact Florescent bulbs.

Step 3 – If you work in your office at night, instead of a desk lamp you can use a USB powered LED or OLED light to light your desk area. If you don’t mind it being a little dark, or just use a low wattage CF bulb in your desk lamp. I have a nice little USB powered LED light which highlights my keyboard, and my LCD monitor provides enough light overall for me to work comfortably at night.

Step 4 – Power off appliances not in use, don’t just standby mode them, they still leech power. Use a power strip that you can kill power to everything, instead of leaving six or seven devices in standby mode drawing power constantly for hours while you are off in another room doing something else.

Step 5 – Adjust your thermostat a few degrees warmer in summer and cooler in the winter, just wear more or less clothing and use some fans to assist. Just a few degrees can save you dozens of dollars per month for a temperature your body will most likely adjust to in a few days.
