DragonBlogger Earnings Report for October 2010

My blog earnings went up a little bit this month which was surprising considering I switched to a new blog theme and took my blog out of the SocialSpark 1.0 system which made it ineligible to receive any more paid opps in that system which had worked so well for me in the past two years. This month however my total earnings were spread across far more sources than in previous months. As you can see by the screenprint below my total earnings for October 2010 were $183.26 which are far below my highest earnings for January 2010 where I earned over $400 in a single month.

$15 of my earnings came from Twitter programs with SponsoredTweets bringing in most of the earnings. To augment my income a bit I wrote four articles for up front payment from AssociatedContent and was able to make just over $15 for writing four dedicated articles for that writing system which isn’t really blogging but I count it as online income. I had a handful of advertisers purchase banner ads and one review in October 2010 from my site as well. Finally, Google AdSense earned me $34.71 from all my sites but this is about 1/2 as much as my normal amount due to my traffic being dropped in October. My traffic has rebounded from switching to the All in One AdSense plugin and I imagine my AdSense earnings should climb over $50 again for the month of November. One thing to note is October 2010 is the first time I had ever sold a ClickBank affiliate program and somebody purchased the Popup Domination plugin for WordPress from my affiliate link which netted me a nice $29.80 from a single sale.

All in all I am focusing my attention on increasing the content on DragonBlogger.com to increase traffic and advertiser interest, with bringing in writers in late October and into November I will be starting a profit sharing program where I am giving a portion of my site profits to my writers for contributing to DragonBlogger.com.

Two years and Two months of blogging, October 2010 was exactly 26 months after I started DragonBlogger.com and I am not even close to my goal of $500 in steady revenue per month. I am convinced from reading and networking with other bloggers online that the only way to really achieve earnings online is through affiliate sales with your own products or quality affiliate products. The problem is that there aren’t many quality affiliate products I am finding, sure they have good commissions but 3/4 of the stuff I wouldn’t sell because I myself don’t believe in the product.

Congrats on your earnings.

As a full-time affiliate, of course that's where my vote goes. I never earned much with advertising/sponsor ads on my blog. In fact, my blog earns pennies compared to my static website. I find that reviewing products I use and earning affiliate commissions works the best.

But I totally understand where you're coming from about finding the right products. It's especially beneficial when you actually use and believe in the products you promote. And when you can find products that offer residual commissions that's where the real money comes in! Nevertheless, these can be more difficult to find depending on your niche.

My earning has increase since last month after keep posting new content. Changing theme doesn't help much on traffic but it does helps to lower the bounce rate(if the theme looks more attractive and easy to navigate)

I've actually found that useing a new theme increases my money and traffic. :)

I switched themes but really haven't noticed a big change in income from switching themes itself.

if this is case then i would like to change my theme .

You're right about affiliate sales being key to better earnings and another secret not many want to admit to is although targeted traffic can be obtained for free, it's much better to pay for traffic...you can leap past time tables by paying ;)

Now is the time to focus on holiday gifts IF you can find a way to interest your existing readers or rank for specific search terms.

I would love to see bloggers get behind supporting small local and online businesses instead of Corporations who already have so many competitive advantages.

Being able to reach a specific target audience will be key to generating far higher incomes than what most bloggers have today.

I believe it would be much easier to reach a specific geography which would appeal to local businesses as a good place to advertise and generate real sales.

Most Internet advertising will not work for locally based businesses. Create a popular group blog for a specific geo-area and write about deserving local attractions, restaurants, businesses, etc. and the income potential is much higher.

There is a post on my blog that is too old to get into CommentLuv now called Bloggers: Position Yourself Where the Money Is. I'll try to put it in the regular Website field to make it easy to get to or you can search.

I still believe that is the way to go. Bloggers could set up a group blog for major metros and contribute content there, drive traffic to their own blogs and split the advertising income.

Last month has been a low earning month for me too since I was not quite active at blogging, I had only around 9 posts or something and the traffic was low. Bu some affiliate review did brought me a reasonable earning. You should also try to concentrate on Affiliate programs and well you are right, nothing bring more earning than affiliate programs

Keep working at it! The fact that you're able to even earn online, even more so .. make a sale via Clickbank, says to me that you have great potential to do even better and earn much more.. so don't quit. My advice to you would be to focus on your affiliate marketing strategy .. there's a lot of money to be made in that field!

Try just promoting some Cost Per Action offers where the visitor merely has to fill out some info for you to make a commission.

My earnings pale in comparison to some who specialize in affiliate marketing, I am convinced the key to earning good numbers is to solidly sell products not advertiser reviews.

I had a pretty good October, income-wise. Traffic not so good. More details in my report (link below).

I see that you're now also a part of mgid.com. Not a bad way of getting traffic.

MGID brings in a steady average of around 1,000 visitors per month to my blog which is about 4x as much as any other referral site.

That's pretty good. MGID only gave me little over 300 visits last month, but I'm hoping it will improve over time.

The revenue of my blog is also better last month. I have sold some paid links as well as received commissions from affiliate programs. Particularly, Elegant Themes program brought me nearly $100, it is quite amazing. :D
