Blog Earnings Report for May 2012

It took me a little longer than normal to compile the May 2012 earnings and traffic report because I was out of town earlier in the month.  I also changed the format a little bit to show contrasts on how much DragonBlogger.com earned in May 2011 to compare to May 2012.  Due to the extra amount of time showing comparisons I am going to break out the traffic report into a separate post this time, but just give you a heads up that these earnings were made primarily from this site which had a total traffic of 68,813 unique visits in May 2012.

Blog Earnings May 2012

May 2012 was the highest single month income earner for DragonBlogger.com to date earning a gross of $1,341.93 for the month.  Most of this was of course from DragonBlogger.com with my personal blog earning nearly $80 by itself (it only gets about 2500 visits per month).

This month saw a drop in AdSense income because my overall traffic dropped by 20% after one of my trending articles fell of the search results page once the trend started waning.  I however made up for it by testing a new earning platform in The Blog Frog which yielded me some great earning potential.

SocialSpark delivered it’s highest single month earnings in a while thanks to now using the SocialSpark Ads as well as the sponsored opps programs.  I was making around $60 for the single 300×250 banner ad on the site which was 3x as much as I was making for a BuySellAd banner in the same spot.  If you haven’t signed up for SocialSpark yet I encourage any blogger to if they want to earn money from doing sponsored reviews, personal blogs and non-category specific blogs can do very well and I get a handful of $15 opps with 2500 visits per month on my personal blog.

Amazon Affiliate still brings in a general range of $70 – $100 per month which is good and again the earnings from my tech blog dominate, though this is slightly skewed because I am using my dragonblogger tracking ID for my promotions on Social Media too in May and I can’t tell how much of my earnings are from social media promotions or my actual blog.

I managed to sell a few copies of Formidable Pro Forms plugin for WordPress which is excellent and worth every penny.  I also sold one copy of the EasyAzon plugin which helps you sell Amazon products on your blog easier.

My expenses came to a total of $297.23 including my writing staff expenses, prize shipping expenses, Blog t-shirt purchase, Blog Engage, Contest Sponsorship and e-Junkie which I may discontinue as I was selling my poetry audio book there but am not selling enough to even make the monthly e-Junkie payment.

My total net profit for the month was $1,044.70 but I haven’t seen all of it in my pocket as many programs take 30 days to pay out, so I don’t actually see my Google AdSense or Amazon Affiliate earnings for May until the last week of June 2012.  SocialSpark still pays out 30 days after the sponsored opp is published and even longer on the Ads program.

Blog Earnings May 2011

If you compare my may earnings in May 2011, you will see I earned $809.93 total and after expenses of $216.87 I had a net profit of $593.06 which is just a little over half of May 2012.

You can see that most of my income came from AdSense and Direct Paid Post or Link.   I should point out that in May 2012 DragonBlogger.com had a PageRank of 4 and I was testing out paid backlink programs like crazy.  So I made a lot of extra money offering links in exchange for compensation which inflated my income temporarily but also resulted in DragonBlogger.com getting a Google penalty where they sent me an email through webmaster tools saying they were penalizing my PageRank back to 0.

You can see my Amazon affiliate income was less than 1/2 in May 2011 compared to 2012 as well.

Overall my blogging related income had near 40% revenue increase in May 2012 compared to May 2011 and this is always a positive sign that growth and revenue are on a good trend.

This was my earnings report from May 2012 and I am hoping to try and keep a $1k per month minimum earnings though I tend to fluctuate very heavily between the $600 and $1000 dollar range from month to month.
