Blogger Tips – Be A Social Blogger

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

One way to get some appreciation and recognition in the blogging community is to go out of your way to promote other blogger’s and show them that you read and appreciate their articles and comments. By specifically pointing out either in a blog post or adding them to your blogroll other blogs in similar categories or ones that you visit and read yourself, you in turn will find that many will likely pay you back some kindness.

This is especially true with commenting on other bloggers sites, many of them will return a comment and some will in fact return to your site and comment back as courtesy. This also serves to benefit you as well, if you leave a clever and worthwhile comment you may actually get some other readers who notice your comment to see what else you have to say and visit your site as well.

Don’t be rude and don’t post links back to your site, if bloggers wanted to link back to your site they would use commentluv already. You could mention that you wrote a similar post or mention it, but wait for the hosting blog to ask for the link, instead of trying to post one in your comment or it could likely be marked as spam. One exception is if you are showcasing or mentioning another blogger on your blog or in your post, in these cases I think it is appropriate to leave the link back so the hosting blogger and readers can see where you mentioned them.

I try to leave at least twenty comments per week on other blogs, and I really wish I could do at least fifty. I don’t leave useless comments either, I try to add value to the article with my commentary. I do appreciate everyone who comments on my blogs, but I do have some people who only leave two or three word comments and usually its the same comment several times in the same week.

Remember that just because you are “anonymous” or not in-person, you have to be a social butterfly if you are to be a successful blogger. You need to make your presence known and much like in any industry where you have to network with other professionals you do this by visiting other bloggers and making your presence known by commenting, reading and participating on other blogs.

Take the time to network and you will start seeing some recognition back, but make sure that your blog is already established and has a fair amount of articles of decent quality before you start this social endeavor. Nobody will promote a poorly written blog that is nothing but advertising and/or has very poorly written articles.

Quality begets quality.

I’m not so much interested in traffic, on my blog, as I am effective interaction. Worthwhile comments are treasured.

As such, whenever I read an article or post that intrigues or touches me, that elicits a response, I am sure to comment. I try not to leave a comment unless it’s means something.

I’ll admit I like best those places where a host will comment back, perhaps even start a dialog. I might come back to a post, under those circumstances multiple times to enjoy the conversation.

True, I agree that responding to comments is something the blog owner should do and do properly. Ignoring a commenter is a sure way to not receive any further comments from those people, thanks for your input.

If you look at responding to comments from a SEO point of view, it doubles your comments and in turn improves your SEO.

This post was a bit of a reality check for me. I get so caught up in my own blogging that I forget about other people.

I agree, lately I get tied up with Twitter so much and talking with people on twitter that I don’t visit as many blogs as I used to.

Nice information but want to add: lots of peope only comment on Do-follow blogs since that helps for the link juice BUT, if you check those comments on those websites you can see that they are low quality, people write just to put their links there!

Right, very good point, a plug-in like CommentLuv is really nice, because while you can still leave the comment “Nofollow” it at least will show the latest post from the blogger’s blog which includes the link and a title on what they blogged about so helps promote their blog in the comment a bit, plus since it is an AJAX plug-in that runs serverside, it doesn’t put load on your wordpress blog.

I was talking with a fellow blogger about the lack of comments on blogs lately. Two years ago, it seemed that getting 20 or so comments a post was the norm and now it seems more like 5 or 6, if that. I know some of my “blogging time” is sidetracked with Facebook and Twitter now, too. Do you think the decrease in comments is because of feeds or email subscriptions? I know it’s the way to go and I have the options on my blog, too, but it kind of takes the interaction out of blogging.

Part of it is because people read via email, or don’t take the time to comment. I think mostly it is the fact that people are lazy and don’t prefer to fill out the 4 or 5 fields, but prefer to read and move on as fast as possible.

Its very true, leaving meaningful comments on other’s blogs is imperative and helps build content and at the same time give answers and opinions for users who landed on your post looking for a solution.
