Blogging Tips – Double Check Spelling and Grammar

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

One of the things I have noticed while blogging is that many blogs out there have become quite complacent about ensuring their articles are correct grammatically. I have found many blogs with run on sentences or simply missing words that should have been included in a sentence.  Other blogs where spelling errors run rampant, this is especially true on foreign blogs that are written in English, and even more where the wrong word is used but spelled correctly.

We have become too reliant on spell checkers to validate our work for us and a simple thing such as a proof read would solve many of these issues. Your blog loses not only readability but credibility if you have nothing but articles full of poorly written sentences and misspellings. Take the time to proof read your entire article after you have completed it, do not just write your article and rely on the WordPress spell checker to validate and correct it. But, I would say write your articles in Microsoft Word instead of WordPress because at least Word has some grammar correction and can let you know if your sentences are starting to have poor grammar.

As a blogger sometimes you only have a first impression on your readers, and you want that impression to give the appearance that you are at the very least a well articulated writer. Without having well written articles that have the appearance of professionalism you stand no chance of having your blog being added to someones RSS reader.

There are exceptions like humor and entertainment blogs, as well as some personal diaries where typo’s, misspelling and poorly phrased captions are intentional, and for those type of blogs then it is an accepted practice.
