Blogging Tips – Tagging Your Advertising Articles

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

Many bloggers including myself were categorizing our paid posts into a separate category like “consumerism” or “paid” or “advertising” though this may be an efficient way to mark posts for “nofollow” after a certain amount of time, more and more content advertisers are disallowing you from categorizing paid posts.  In addition these leads to some “categories” on your blog that people may just avoid altogether or never click on, I mean who would click on a category called “paid posts”.

In order to tag your posts for easy sorting and collection, you should develop a set of comments that you can embed into the HTML of your post so that you can quickly find your posts.

I developed a system for myself (with the brillaint idea given by Damien Riley who is my Blog Jedi Master) and use the following tagging comments, for each of the six major Paid Blogging companies I use on my various blogs and place in the HTML at the end of the post:  (I

<!–PayU2Blog–>
<!–PayPerPost–>
<!–SocialSpark–>
<!–BlogToProfit–>
<!–V4PPP–>
<!–BlogsVertise–>

I will categories my paid posts into my normal categories and just html tag the post instead.  Now if I want to see how many PayU2Blog posts I have done for the month, I can just use WordPress and search for <!–PayU2Blog–> and all blog posts with that tag will be displayed.  This is a way to keep track of all of my paid posts without having to put them in a category or URI context that is exposed to my readers, and will better integrate them more seamlessly into your blog and still give you the ability to track them separate from other posts.

A blog should be relatively niche specific and I don’t recommend blogs to have more than 3-5 primary categories and maybe another few sub categories of those primary categories.

Warning, remember if you delete categories on your blog, then the google index for those categories will send a user to a 404 page, so make sure you have proper 404 redirects in place before you go deleting categories.
