Blogging Without A Purpose

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

One of the biggest questions I get asked by new comers to SocialSpark is how do I start making money with blogging. This is a fair question and is something I am always trying to learn the answer to myself. Before you should think about monetizing your blog however, you need to define your blog purpose.

Your purpose is your entire reason for your blogs existence, your purpose needs to be developed with your potential readers and audience in mind. Your purpose helps keep you focused on what your blog is about and keeps you doing it.

Your purpose cannot simply be to try and make money blogging, because unless you define your blog to provide some value to your readers, you will not get very much traffic and will not be able to profit from your blog in the end.

To help other bloggers with this, I will share my blog purposes. This is what my blogs provide to my readers and would continue to do so whether I monetized my blogs or not.

  • DragonBlogger.com is my flagship blog and is my technology and entertainment portal. I use this blog to keep my readers informed about blogging, twitter, freeware, and just about any other technology related topics. I also mix it up with movie reviews and some entertainment and humor related posts once and a while.
  • WandererThoughts.com is my poetry and literature blog and I use this as a way to share my poetry with my fans and friends. I also use this blog for my random twitter poetry game, where my fans submit random words and I craft unique poetry containing the words submitted.
  • JustinGermino.com is my personal blog and I use this blog to share my insights about living in Arizona, being a parent, being married and whatever else I want to talk about. My value to readers would be some parenting tips, marriage advice and general insight to some things I run across.

So now that you know my blog purposes, I want to hear from my fellow bloggers. Share with me your blog purpose, what are you offering to your readers to keep them engaged and coming back? Leave me a comment or take my socialspark opp for this post. I want to hear from you.

I write my blog to share my experiences with my readers. I know that as I experience different kinds of dynamics and events in my career, sharing them along with my insights and interpretations can be interesting and useful. I also have several different insights (such as the 4 Ps) which I want to develop and offer to others as insight for managing their own career.

In return, I develop my own brand and make it known to the interested blogosphere.

I agree that you must have a purpose for your blogs. With my two man blogs, I have a clearly defined purpose.

With my blog “Tycoon Blogger” the purpose is to provide blogging tips to help bloggers promote and monetize their blogs.

I also have a career advice blog called CareerCopilot.com where I provide career advice, resume and interviewing tips and other job hunting tips.

You have clearly defined purposes for both of your blogs and both are excellent, specific and that is exactly the type of purpose bloggers should have defined with their blogs. Thank you for sharing.

I started a blog with my friend not too long ago. Our purpose is not really there. I think I kind of wanted to do this blog so that we can get into the blogging and seo game. We are posting a bunch of random tips, and I may throw a random rant in there every now and then.
I think our purpose now is to provide readers with tips about many subjects and also try to entertain as well. Hopefully, when we start getting traffic, we can have people ask us things and we try to give them tips on how to do what they need.

But starting a blog with a purpose can be difficult. You have to think about what topic you want to cover. There are so many topics out there, and the biggest topics are already covered by people with greater knowledge. You want to try to find a topic that is searched on google, but doesn’t have a lot of competition. That such topic seems unfindable.
