Dragon Blogger Earnings for August 2009

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

In an effort to be completely transparent about blogging income to show other bloggers what realistic numbers they can expect from blogging, I always do a post showing what my blogs earn each month.  August 2009 was my most successful and profitable month yet as a blogger.  Between my three blogs, only two of them earned anything other than some Adsense revenue, but I earned $435 dollars this month which was easily twice as much as three to six months ago.  Dragonblogger.com my flagship blog is still my top earner at more than $335 dollars earned from it, most from only 3 SocialSpark opps that netted me $290 dollars from just doing 3 paid opps.  Meanwhile, my personal blog continues to average between $50 and $70 per month from PayU2Blog which is still worth doing.  All in all my goal was to try and earn $500 per month from my blogs by December 2009, and I am getting close to achieving that goal, though I don’t think I can sustain this high of earnings each and every month, this was clearly a successful month blogging.

I also earned $23.33 in AdSense for the month and my new AdSense ads and placements have netted me more clicks this month since I have done some tweaking, hopefully this will continue to increase as well.

According to Google Analytics I came out with:

  • 10,041 unique visits / average of 323.9 unique visits per day
  • 12,555 Page Views
  • 59% of my visits from Google Search (Organic)

augearnings

All in all though, remember that I put in about 20 hours per week into my blogging and online earnings, so if you divide $435.51 / 80 hours, I have netted about $5.44 per hour blogging this month, which is still below minimum wage.

$435 is pretty damn good for the months blog income. I still need to work harder at ad placements and bring in advertisers and stuff like that. Keep up the great work. Greg Ellison

Thanks, was lucky, one SocialSpark opp accounted for $250 payout, which is more than 1/2 of total earnings.

It’s good money for blogging, but as you point out, it’s still below minimum wage. Question is, would you still have done it even if it didn’t pay anything? :)

Very good question, and I will do a blog post with my answer since I think it deserves a full post. Short answer is yes, I would do my poetry blog because it hones my writing and artistic skill, my technology blog because it is a hobby, and my personal blog, but probably no others. I just wouldn’t spend nearly as much time promoting them and looking for paid opps.
