Dragon Blogger Review of Heroes Volume 4 Fugitives – Episode 4 – Cold Wars
I want to start by saying that I still enjoy NBC Heroes and think the show has so much potential, but the episode “Cold Wars” this week has proven that the Sylar and Hiro/Ando storylines are the best and most entertaining so far in Volume 4. This episode promised to tell us if “Noah” was one of the good guys or bad guys, yet left us even more confused about his intentions and purpose in the end.
Peter should just give up pointing a gun at someone, he has no clear intention of killing anyone and people are starting to know he doesn’t have the gall. This means everyone will call his bluff, as “The Hunter” did when Peter had a gun against his head and only wound up wounding him in a show of force with no clear intention to kill him. This again is regurgitated material, he did the same type of stunt against Arthur in Volume 3 where he couldn’t pull the trigger but eventually fired.
The show points out that Matt has the ability to instill illusions in others minds, or take control of them, but he still gets captured way too easily. It is like some episodes his has extraordinary telepathic abilities and others he can just read minds and draw visions of the future. He should have been able to escape from the guards by creating a mass illusion of the apartment being empty or something to mislead them. They show is inconsistant about what Matt Parkman can do lately.
I was very glad they revealed Daphne to be still alive, I thought it was a pointless kill to have her character offed so suddenly, this at least gives a purpose and a mission for Matt. The problem is that the episode showed Matt potentially being the cause of a bomb going off in Washington DC. My god, how many times are we going to see an explosion in a city painted on a floor? Have the writers simply run out of any other idea’s?
Mohinder’s choices and actions are still confusing, he is just as likely to take Nathan’s side as to continue to help Matt and Peter it would seem. He went from vicious villain in the last volume to wanting to repent and help in this one. I think Nathan will convince him that the goal to remove powers is a good one and Mohinder will start helping Nathan.
Meanwhile, clearly Noah is working for Angela Petrelli still and his mission is to infiltrate the government and get close to The Hunter. What the purpose of this goal is at this time is unknown, if it was just to kill or eliminate him, then you would think there were already plenty of opportunities.
This I think is a good thing, I was glad he is working for Angela and not actually working for Nathan or The Hunter, by the way this character is actually one of the welcome new ones in the show. His rogue determination in wanting to contain the “specials” are enjoyable. I am looking forward to a showdown between Nathan and The Hunter who will eventually turn on him I am predicting.
Meanwhile, I think the writers need to be more original and creative with what they show, everytime they show a vision painting, it is regurgitated from previous volumes and episodes. Also it constantly shows people who you would think are good, doing something atrocious which seems way out of character. The volume will get old very fast if they show too many near captures of the same Heroes, already they tried to capture Peter and Matt before only to have them escape. If they keep repeating the capture/escape anymore, it will be too much.
I am hoping to see more of the Sylar and Hiro/Ando storylines next week, and seeing how everything plays out. I still enjoy the show but this episode a bit less than previous ones so far this volume. Do you agree or disagree with my assessment?

I didn't really take Claire's teenage rebellion into account, but that could also be because after two seasons I figured maybe she would learn to trust Noah a bit. Sure he's stubborn but I don't there there has been a single instant where he wasn't doing what he truly believed was in her best interest. In this case he kept her from being sedated and locked up, which actually did allow her to save Hiro, Tracy, Matt, Mohinder, and Peter. When she first doubted him, fine, second time even I was okay with it because of all the rules she had the first time she got to Costa Verde. Then after that she lost my support, even after his little incident making that guy suck himself into a black hole. I feel like if she found Peter in the cockpit she would let him explain himself, but for some reason through out all of his loyalty she still can't believe Noah.
And just a side note, I was wondering how Noah was taking the company being gone making that first flashback extra satisfying for me.
