Dragon Blogger Review of Nights in Rodanthe
Here is a non-comedy romantic film about two people whose lives have nearly fallen apart and hope for love long since dwindled. They meet by accident and an almost unimaginable romance blooms making the two feel like teenage lovebirds. Richard Gere plays Dr. Paul Flanner a doctor troubled by a surgery gone awry and losing his family as a result of his attitude and lack of empathy regarding the entire ordeal.
Meanwhile Adrienne Willis (Played by Diane Lane) is a woman recently separated from her husband who was cheating on her, only to find that he wants to make up just as she is leaving to take care of a Bed and Breakfast place for a friend. Just as Adreinne settles in at the Bed and Breakfast which is on the beach in Rodanthe, Dr. Paul Flanner arrives to stay as a guest for a few days while he is in town trying to meet with the family of the victim from his operation.
This movie shows how even under the pressures of life and difficult situations love can find two people when they least expect it, their lives complicated the two people “heal” each other emotionally and spiritually as they deal with the life changes around them. For just a few short days and enduring a hurricane in a sole home adjacent to the ocean their lives are changed.
They separate only to look forward to meeting again, Dr. Flanner looking to reconnect with his son while Adrienne looks to finalize the divorce and bring stability back to her family. They keep their love alive via old fashioned written letters, and the movie looks to be one of the greatest romance films in the last few years save for the suprise ending.
I won’t say what happens but will say bring some tissues with you when you watch the movie, especially if you watch it with your loved ones. I did find the snake like behavior of Jack Willis (played by Christopher Meloni) as he tries to weasel his way back into the family by using their kids as pawns in his game made me angry.
This movie is very much a good chick flick, and for those guys who enjoy watching romance films with their ladies, this one is well acted, cleverly written, just the title of the film is a little week. It was much better than I thought it would be.
I would give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars.
