Dragon Blogger Review of Astro Boy
I took our six and three year old boys to see Astro Boy last weekend and the movie was everything they had hoped it would be. Though the movie may not have been terribly original, combining elements from The Iron Giant, Wall-E, and about a dozen other movies about Good vs Evil it will keep the whole family entertained for an hour and a half.
Surprising there is less action than you would think in the film, most of the film is about Astro Boy discovering how to fit in with humans and robots and forging a friendship with both sides as he finds his way. The film has the excellent voice work of Freddie Highmore as Astro Boy, with Nicholas Cage as his father Dr. Tenma, Kristen Bell as Cora and Donald Sutherland as General Stone.
The movie does have a scene of death and deals with a father cloning his son’s DNA to create a robot version which he finds does not exactly duplicate the original, it had a little bit of an A.I. feel in the early parts of the movie, but with more humor and entertainment. Eugene Levy has some of the funnier moments as the house servant bot Orrin.
There is quite a bit of action toward the last fifteen minutes of the film and the whole family was thoroughly entertained with the movie setting itself up for a sequel. Dragon Blogger gives this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Man...! This has been in theatres already?!
Turns out I completely missed out on this. Astro Boy's pretty big as a franchise... But I never got a chance to pique my curiosity towards it!
I suppose I'll have to nab the DVD and by the time I write about it, it'll probably be a retro review XD
