DragonBlogger.com Turns 1 Year Old

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

Six Hundred posts in my first year DragonBlogger.com site itself has yielded just over 124,000 unique visits, over 256,000 pageviews and an average bounce rate of 28% according to Google Analytics. Dragon Blogger has six articles in the top 5 spots for various Google search terms, and continues to average between 200 and 400 unique visits per day when I do zero social submissions, I can burst this up to 500-600 if I stumble various posts and such but that is artificial inflation.

Not counting any other blogs, Dragonblogger.com itself has earned me a total of $838.94 in its first year between Aug 23rd 2008 and Aug 23rd 2009. Take out the web hosting fee’s and this is still around $700 profit, but if you divide my time on average lets say 15 minutes per post.

600 posts / 15 minutes per post, this averages me earning 71 cents per post or $4.66 cents per hour which is 7.5 cents per minute. Given these type of earnings, who in their right mind would want to try and blog for a living? The earnings are even less if I factor in time spent on SEO, wordpress upgrades, plugins, tweaking themes…etc.

The good news is that if you combine all of my blogs, I have earned over $1200 in my first year blogging overall, and I don’t think that is bad for my first year, I am sure that I will exceed that total by double in the next year. Perseverance is key, if you have a good idea and you continue to do quality work, you will see a payoff in the end. So I keep at it and providing what I can, meanwhile I use the little bits of income as ways to pay off some debt and the occasional fun splurge to see a movie, get a new Wii game and whatnot. Because if you can’t enjoy the spoils of your labor, then whats the point?

Happy Blogversary! And WOW! You already earned a lot! As for me, it’s kinda late before I started joining sites that could earn me money online. But I guess I am doing good now. But still, I cannot give up my work and be a 100% blogger.

I don’t think I will ever make enough from blogging to be able to give up my day job, but if I made enough to pay down debt and build up my savings and vacation funds, that would be totally worth it. Thanks for the congrats.

Thank you, I haven’t been on your site in a while, have you completely changed your theme? Also, something about your synad2.nuffnang.com prevents your site from loading for me, it gets tripped up on that ad network, I tried 6 times and your blog never loads tonight.

Congrats on the anniversary. Interestingly, my 1 year anniversary is up this week too. Just wondered on the average 15 minutes per post though. I find that with researching the subject, finding links, getting graphics, writing the post, and spelling check, I must be averaging 2 hours per post. Don’t think I’d get much useful done in 15 minutes!

Often I write about subjects I know, and I can find images on google images pretty quick or screen capture them. I also type 90 words per minute which helps increase my posting time. Most of my posts take no longer than 15 minutes to write, but I am not counting the read time if I read a news article and then decide to write about it, I just mean from the moment I start writing the first word for the post to when I click publish. Some paid posts can take me upwards of 30-45 minutes to write, and only doing video recording posts takes me more than two hours.

I did check out your site, not a huge fan of PTC programs, they often take so much time and pay out so little. You can make more blogging with less time.
