Dragon Blogger Stats and Earnings for July 2010
I am a no nonsense blogger who has full disclosure over how much I make online from my blogs. When you blog you will spend enormous amounts of time to your site(s) and you will reap very little monetary reward at first. You must have a passion for blogging, or like most you won’t be able to weather the storm and will likely drop out before you can even realize your earning potential.
July reflected my 23rd month blogging and it brought me a total income of $277.93 from all three of my blogs. As you can see from the graph below most of my earnings comes from my Technology Blog but my personal blog and poetry blog contribute to the AdSense earnings and sometimes earn paid opps as well.
Out of the 23 months I have been blogging, SocialSpark has been my single largest source of income for 20 of the 23 months. They provide the best way for bloggers to earn money by reviewing advertiser products and services and allow you to write an honest and fair review. Your blog can qualify if you get even a decent amount of traffic, have good Alexa ratings or Page Rank.
I share all of my online money making programs in more detail but some fluctuate on a month by month basis. I earned some direct purchased reviews and/or links from advertisers this month and this is a growing revenue source as my site becomes more popular online. One thing that is still limiting my earning potential is my lower PR2 rating which has been this way for nearly two years. My site is penalized by Google for having disclosures and doing paid posts, and this keeps my page rank artificially lower than it should be.
My biggest excitement is AdSense, this was my highest earning month ever for Google AdSense at almost $70 in a single month. My goal was to reach $100 per month in AdSense and I am almost there. Prior to optimizing Google AdSense on my blog which I did back in March, I was only getting $15 – $25 per month in AdSense earnings. Now my AdSense earnings are nearly tripled and my site doesn’t get more than 8% more traffic than it did back in March.
As far as my site traffic, my months continue to get slightly better:
You can see that my site traffic changed from previous months, I was holding down a steady 75% Search Engine traffic source, but I started testing this new MGID traffic exchange program and it brought in over fifteen hundred referral visits in the month of July which increased my referral traffic % and lowered my search engines % a bit.
I will be doing a review of the MGID Traffic Exchange program shortly now that I have been using it for a month and I will be sharing my thoughts and experience with the program.
How to Make Money With Blogging?
As I round up to my 2nd full year of blogging I am starting to finally delve much more heavily into Affiliate programs and leveraging a mailing list. One of my biggest mistakes was not starting a mailing list two years ago and waiting so long to build up a subscriber list. This is one reason I have purchased and installed the PopUp Domination plugin for WordPress which has netted me an average of fifteen new subscribers per day in the first week I have been using it.
I have met far too many bloggers who are earning amounts in excess of a thousand dollars per month and Affiliate income appears to be one of the top ways to earn money from blogging. I do not plan to affiliate sell any product I haven’t personally purchased or reviewed myself, and I don’t purchase products often. The exception is the Amazon Affiliate program where I have started leveraging more Amazon Affiliate links in my personal blog as a way to try and increase its monetization. I will usually link to products on Amazon related to my post or in the same topic and consider it more like putting a deliberate Google Ad rather than a true affiliate marketing.
What do you think does putting an Amazon Ad on your site count more like a regular ad or is it more like an affiliate sale?
This is the traffic and income stats for DragonBlogger.com for July 2010, so far in 2010 I have earned $1,754.95 for the first seven months with my highest month being January which earned me $426.49 in one month. My goal as a blogger was always to reach a part time second income of $1,000 per month and I am still a long way from reaching that goal but I enjoy the challenge.
How do my fellow bloggers fare with their July earnings? What programs have worked best for you? Let this be a two way conversation, share your tips, suggestions and success or struggles you have monetizing your blogs.
