DragonBlogger is now a DoFollow Blog

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: blogging

commentlove

After spending much time researching other blogs, I have decided to open DragonBlogger.com up as a dofollow blog, but I decided to do it in style in much the same way TycoonBlogger has done.

This means I installed the following plug-ins and methods to reward readers who comment on this site:

Dofollow - This is a plug-in which overrides the wordpress default nofollow for comments, so that everyone who comments gets a legitimate link back to their site.

CommentLuv - this plug-in will show the commentors latest post on their blog when they leave a comment and enter their URL

KeywordLuv - This plug-in will allow the user to enter <user @ keywords> and it will show the keywords and link back to their site.

Top Commentator Widget – This plug-in will now show the top 5 commentors on my site with dofollow links back to them from my blog.

The combined above may cause some PR juice to leak out of my blog articles, but should encourage people to leave more comments since they get the linkback as a reward.  I will check to see if this increases my spam comments or not.  Since comments on blog posts help increase the SERP listing of an article or page you want to encourage comments but somehow have effective policies and measures to block spammers from abusing the comment and backlinks.

As a result I have created and listed a set Commenting Policy which you can see below.  All blogs should have a commenting policy that can be referenced somewhere.

Commenting Policy

  • You MUST use your name or online name. Keywords only will get your comment delinked or marked as spam. Be warned.
  • Both Author URL and Commentluv URL will be dofollow only after 5 “solid” comments.
  • Restrict yourself to 3 Keywords or less only. Anything more than 3 keywords and your comment risks getting deleted!
  • Links to incomplete sites, suspicious sites, blatant affiliate sales sites or Google unfriendly sites will be removed.
  • STUPID SPAMMY COMMENTS such “Bookmarked for future reading”, “Great site. Good article” and the rest of them are not allowed. Don’t waste your precious time and mine. Also comment regurgitation is not allowed on my blog.
  • Comments not written in proper form/grammer or with mispelling may be deleted or edited for readability sake.
  • Finally for me to believe that your comment ain’t spam, you MUST make reference to something written within the post.

Great to see that! My blog is a 80% dofollow blog too just I didn’t follow comment but I’ll be doing this roughly by this week. But for sure we will get more spammy comment, so you’ll more work on reading comment and approve them manually. :)

    Anyway, that’s a great step!

It does seem a lot of sites are going down the dofollow route these days, it’s also nice to see a top commentators widget on the blog.

As you say you may lose some PR juice, but at the end of the day, you usually find you get more comments on your blog, I found this with mine ;)

Dofollow does pose the risk of reducing your PageRank as you will be linking out of your articles, but you receive the benefit of increased traffic and comments which help SEO. From the blogs that I have seen, many that are dofollow are still able to maintain a pagerank, but since my blog was making virtually the same money with PageRank 2 as PageRank 0 I would rather get the comments and forsake the PageRank.

The more links out of your site the lower your pagerank, so if you have more links going out than in then your pagerank is lower. So in essence you are draining your PR juice and sending it to other sites.

I’m actually doing some personal testing with many of my blogs right now; dofollow, follow, link out to authority sites, ect ect ect…

The one test I have seen that is really surprising to me was that a blog of mine was on the SERPS on page 2 of Google at position 11.

I noticed that the links where all “follow.” Thinking that it would help me I turn nearly 30 of my out going link all to “nofollow”

That was the only thing I did this week to the blog.

A couple days later, my blog is now sitting in position 151. It might have been some other factors, but I find it very interesting.

  26. Glenn from Best Domain Hosting (1 comments) Says:

I could be wrong, but I don’t think you lose page rank when you give other sites a link. I have been doing some experimenting, and have been using this keyword luv tool to get about five links to each of my sites everyday. I also put about two or three links back out to similar random sites.

I just don’t link to the same site I got a link from, because I think google considers that reciprocal links, and devalues them.

Four of the five sites I have been doing this with are on page one, or the top of page two in google. The fifth one isn’t there because I made a poor choice on the domain name.

They are all for low volume, and low competition keywords, (3,000 searches mo, 25k exact match sites) but I was never able to get there before with my old tactics.

    Hi,

I have all of the same plugins in my two blogs. I like the fact that I can be helping visitors to my blogs when they comment and they help me out at the same time.
I just wish people would leave more substantial comments. When I was in the online university they had online discussions and we were required to post substantial content or risk loosing points.
Don’t get me wrong, some do leave nice ones…others not so good. But, we take the good with the bad right?

Great site, I am learning much from it, thank you.
