I saw this movie last night on DVD renting it from blockbuster and have to say that it was thoroughly disturbing. The movie stars Samuel L. Jackson as a Abel Turner an LA COP who is raising his two children by himself as his wife died three years earlier. The movie opens as Abel learns he has some new neighbors moving in next door, at first he thinks it is a black couple but soon realizes a newlywed interracial couple is actually his new neighbors.

This starts Abel down a path of resentment as he is passive aggressive at first and eventually outright rude telling his new neighbors Chris and Lisa (played by Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) that they are not welcome. At first it is annoyance, such as security flood lights shining through their bedroom window but gradually this degrades into open hostilities.

I used to live next to a crazy neighbor and I had to sell my first house after living in it for less than 3 years just to get out of the neighborhood. I saw many similar behaviors and patterns in my own crazy neighbor as I saw done by Samuel L. Jackson in this movie who did a superb job playing a character getting more and more twisted and insane with his hatred and bigotry.

By the time the movie was over I was breathing a sigh of relief, the movie was very intense and kept you just wondering and worrying what was going to happen next to the couple and how far Abel Turner would sink in his sociopathic behaviors.

It was a good movie and kept me entertained the whole time, there was really no down or slow parts. I would rate this movie 3.5 our of 5 stars.
