As a blogger I have always been up front and honest on how I make money blogging and I share the programs I try and use and the results in an effort to help other bloggers learn something new or make money where they have yet to reach success. I don’t make a lot of money blogging honestly, and this months earnings are what was earned from a combined three blogs which were all started twenty two months ago. I do spend about 20 hours per week blogging, so if you divide my monthly earnings up by the amount of time I spent blogging this equates to about a $3.51 per hour wage.

So for the month of June 2010 my total earnings were $281.36 which was the 2nd highest grossing month so far in 2010, my highest being January 2010. My highest income source again this month was SocialSpark for DragonBlogger.com which tied overall with my direct advertising revenue from all of my blogs. SocialSpark still for the past twenty months has been my single largest income produce for my sites. AdSense jumped to a new milestone and I earned $64.22 from AdSense which is my highest ever in a single month and the first time I broke $60 in one month from AdSense alone.

So combining my earning so far this year, my blogging hobby has grossed $1477.02 across all three blogs and this isn’t bad considering my lower PageRank of 2 and traffic levels for my sites. Blogging can eventually lead to some good incomes but it takes time, dedication and a little bit of luck to hit the right niche, markets. Most will not see a five figure income overnight or even over two or three years, but the slow and steady do eventually catch up over time as long as you provide quality content, write often and continue to expand your social networks.

DragonBlogger.com traffic rankings my traffic seems to hover around the same unique visits for past few months:

My traffic is around 24.4k pageviews and 18.5k unique visits this month and my Search Engine traffic continues to account for just over 75% of my total blog traffic, which is why my AdSense earnings are higher than average. Search Engine traffic is the best source of traffic to monetize your blogs with AdSense and tends to have a higher CTR rate than direct or referral traffic. You can see that Twitter and StumbleUpon provide me with around 250 visits per month for both of those referral services.

While my earnings are fairly good for a blogger I am pretty much plateaued until I can increase the traffic to my site, I don’t think I will reach my milestone goal of $500 per month earnings until I can get my site to reach 40k plus in traffic or a PageRank bump to 4 or higher. I continue to spend my spare time writing the best articles I can on a variety of topics ranging to Blogging, SEO, Social Media, Technology, Internet, Gadgets and Software but like all blogs it is a very competitive market and there is far more competition in 2010 than there was in 2004, 2005 and 2006. I also am focusing more time on building backlinks and will spend some extra time guest posting on other blogs.

Are you using any plugin for tracking your earnings ? And i must say that you are earning good amount . And by reading comments i agree that kontera and infolinks are slo money maker

There are certainly lots of other ways you can earn money through blogging. I believe that an increased audience will also open new opportunities to you as a blogger. One alternative once you have a reasonable amount of traffic is to outsource your ad sales. Some blog networks and ad networks will handle this kind of thing for you once you have enough traffic. Anyway, let me thank you Justin for your honest post regarding your income which other bloggers won't do. And also for sharing some informative tips how to earn more, which will be a great help for others.

You can at least double your AdSense earnings by optimizing the placement of the ads. I would try to add Small Square (200 x 200) just below the buttons (stumbleupon, buzz, tweet) and align it to the left of the content as well. Leave it for some days and see what happens.

Quite a bit of traffic you're already receiving. Maybe to break that 40k mark you could go out and guest post more frequently for a while - pull in some new people, hold new contests and work on various link building efforts.

At the moment, Blogsvertise is making me a pretty substantial amount of income, close to 250.00 per month. I haven't received an offer from Payperpost for quite some time, but when I do, I just don't think it's valuable for my blog to accept a review for 5 bucks with three links. Too much leakage.

What PageRank/traffic stats blog of yours use BlogsVertise, I only get about one $10 offer per month from them, and the offers are all not a good fit, so I haven't done an opp from them in months.

THis is a good article. I think you hit the nail on the head. Slow and steady is the only way to be successful online. I think the internet has a reputation for being a fast money maker because of the overnight success some sites have had. But these sites are just a few of the millions online. But if you can stay the course it will pay off in the end

Any idea what you'll do to increase your traffic?

You're right about the competition - there's a lot of it. But we just have to hang in there and put our personality into our articles, that's what seperates us from the rest :)

Also, it's better to make $3.51 per hour on blogging than $0 an hour watching TV :)

Watching TV is less stressful, but seriously. My next tactics to bring in traffic are to write "how to" and "help" articles which get a lot of search results. I find my most popular and high traffic articles on my site were related to troubleshooting or how to fix something in Windows, so more of those should help me break my plateau of traffic.

Making a Living Online

This is extremely valuable information and i'm glad you're sharing it. What i found pretty shocking is that you have a very high bounce rate and considering most of your traffic is coming from search engines, one could assume that people are landing on specific blog post pages and should be very targeted.

I have a blog and it's made 0$ so far. I'm ok with that though, i make plenty from non-blog sites. It really shows your determination and drive to continue doing what your doing. It's also proved to yield some extra cash, which is always a good thing =)

Thanks for sharing this interesting posts. I don't earn money much from my blog, i only got about 10 € per month lol!

But my traffic is increasing now, i am so happy and this is my aim, before monetizing blog more further.

I noticed with infolink is faster earning money, but we will see, i am new using infolinks.

I have tried infolinks and Kontera before and both have only earned me around $5 - $10 per month which I deemed not worth it at the time, if my site received over 100k traffic per month I might consider using it again as I know some sites make hundreds per month from infolinks.
