Favicons are Fun – Tip for fellow bloggers or anyone running a web site

Posted by: dragonblogger  //  Category: Internet, blogging

I am one of those people who can’t stand when I see my bookmark bar full of generic favicon icons.  For those who don’t know what a Favicon is, this is a little 16 pixel by 16 pixel logo of your web site.  Almost all browsers now support the favicon.ico file.  This allows you to create a custom noticeable box next to your bookmark link that represents your web site.

Sometimes when I click on my bookmarks, all I need to see is the Favicon to know what I want to click on, I don’t even need to read the bookmark title.  This is very helpful, as if you have a very impressionable favicon it can draw a user’s eye and help get your bookmark and site remembered.

I have always loved seeing how creative people can be with their own favicon.ico files and remember 16×16 pixels is not very large so you really have to be creative to get anything somewhat readable.

Here are a list of some favicon’s that I have bookmarked and think are really nice, I included my own here, I think it is pretty good although a little hard to see, it is my logo re-sized and remade into a favicon.  I think it stands out and you can kind of make out the red dragon, let me know what you think of my favicon logo.

Let me know what types of favicon logo’s “jump” out at you or feel free to share with me your inspiration behind your own custom favicon icon file, I am always curious to know why you decided to create one, and why you chose the image you did.

I hope to hear from you soon.
