Budgets have been a bit tight over these years so I am still using a 48″ rear projection Mitsubishi television with 1080i resolution max, which isn’t true hi-def, you need 1080p and the difference is astounding. Now 1080i looks very crisp and I have a high quality DVD upconverted from Denon which will make my 480p DVD’s look better quality than you would think. So I have managed to eek out almost hi-def from my current systems, but I saw no point in buying a Playstation 3 or Bluray player until I get myself a high resolution LCD HDTV.

Ideally I would like to replace my 48″ rear projection with a 52″ or 60″ LCD display that has at least 3 HDMI inputs, then I would upgrade my Dish Network to get the HD channels and get a Blueray player and the like. I do have full speaker surround but it is only 5.1, and I did have the house prewired so that my speakers hang from the ceiling and look neat.

I am a movie enthusiast and I really care about the sound quality and picture qualities of the movies I watch, TV Shows I am not as picky, but movies I like to get as close to theater as possible, so I really want to save some money in 2009 and perhaps upgrade to the entertainment package I have described above. Really my Nintendo Wii still is connected to a 27″ cathode ray tube television and only playing in basic 480i, I will swap that out when I upgrade my 48″ rear projection.

Those are just some of my wish lists, but there isn’t a Santa with this in store for me this year unfortunately. All of you lucky people out there with nice plasma’s or LCD TV’s and Blueray’s, consider yourselves lucky. So here is my question for my readers, do you have any favorite LCD Monitor brands, or Plasma brands, anything you want to recommend, or discuss and give me some input on?

Do you like Blueray and 1080p, is it worth the difference in your opinion from regular DVD movies?
