In anticipation for Heroes return to television tonight after taking a week off I read the latest graphic novel #110 this morning called Viewpoints. This weeks issue is all about Gabriel Gray aka Sylar attempting to change his life and work for The Company, this comic is about when Sylar attempted his first and only solo mission. The comic specifically points out that it took place shortly after Episode Five Angels and Monsters TV Episode where Noah Bennett had tried to force the Vortex man to kill Sylar.
The comic opens up with Sylar walking the corridors of a Primatech Facility in New York City. Gabriel is noting that nobody wanted to pair with him, when there was supposed to always be One of Us, One of Them. Gabriel doesn’t appear to hold a grudge about the company agents not wanting to work with him being that he already killed a fair amount of them himself. An agent walks over and spits on Sylar’s face but Gabriel just shuts his eyes and controls himself from backlashing.
In the next scene he admits to breaking protocol and going to Chicago alone to perform a mission. He sits in a car running surveillance thinking about the similarities between being a serial killer and an agent. He confirms the sighting of a Level 5 escapee named Dennis who is probably with another escapee. He smugly rejects the idea of calling in backup and decides to go it alone.
He walks into a kitchen where dead people are on the floor and a woman named Rachel appears relieved to see him. She exclaims that “They” killed the people and suddenly she is either knocked out or put to sleep by the green noxious breath of one of the level 5 escapee’s. The three escapee’s two male and one female standoff against Sylar and upon recognizing him start by thanking him for releasing them. They reveal their names to be Tina, Dennis and Michael and Sylar is taken aback by having “fans” who idolize him.
As Dennis asks Sylar if he will join them, Sylar releases a nuclear burst that turns them man to a charred skeleton. He then demands the others surrender. The man named Michael lunges for Sylar but Sylar just points out his increased strength are useless when he cuts off his windpipe telekinetic. He then reveals that Tina exudes Chlorine Gas from her mouth instead of Carbon Dioxide and lifts her into the air telekinetic too.
Meanwhile the woman named Rachel awakes and begs Sylar not to kill the others, Gabriel does decide to listen to her after all because in the next scene we see the company agents taking the prisoners away. Sylar is a little disappointed when he learns the Haitian will be called in to blank the mind of the woman because she was the one person who thought of him as a hero.
This comic was incredible because it shows Sylar becoming more confident in his ability, as well as his desire to change and not become just a vicious serial killer. Though he still has vigilante justice where he killed one escapee outright, I akin his personality as becoming more Chaotic Good rather than Lawful Good if I had to put it into Dungeons and Dragons Terms.

I’m really starting to get into this show myself. The previews always made it seem real cheesy to me, but after watching it on Netflix I am pretty hooked after only a few episodes.
