The episode opens to Dr. Mohinder Suresh in his lab trying to investigate his rash and mutating body. He is interrupted after hearing a woman screaming and see’s a husband fighting with his wife. He interjects and pummels the guy, and the woman begs him to stop. Why do the women always defend the abuser?

We cut next to Tracy talking with Dr. Zimmerman who explains that they performed DNA manipulation. She seeks to know why they would experiment with her, Dr. Zimmerman tries to backpedal and not give away the company after revealing too much. She tries to demand the doctor to take the ability away, and loses control and almost kills him by freezing him. She stops herself just in time to prevent his death.

Cut to Matt Parkman in Africa who is wondering if he can stop and change the future. The opening part is just a recap from the last episode, but once the African Visionary puts the headset on Matt, he starts to go into a vision trance and starts to see the future.

We then are taken to 4 years into the future in New York City where Future Peter Petrelli and Present Peter Petrelli witness common people flying all over the street to and from work. Future Peter reveals that everyone has the ability to get the formula that grants abilities. He reveals that people are stupid, evil, jealous and that unlocking powers in all causes the end of the world as they know it. He reveals that somebody from Present Peter’s time is making a formula to grant anyone powers, and that Present Peter must find Sylar and absorb his power and it can change the future. He explains that he has meddled too much “Stepped on Too Many Butterflies” and that Present Peter must not make the same mistakes. Bullets then are shot into future Peter and he collapses to the ground just as we see Future Claire fire again at Present Peter who flee’s, he hits the Future Haitian in the head and manages to escape. The fact that the Future Haitian was present might explain why Future Peter did not heal when Claire shot him.

We arrive at the morgue to see that Future Peter is dead on a table, future Daphne and Knox arrive and ask if Peter is dead. They both say they have to use Molly. They talk about finding and killing Present Peter. There is still no explanation why Future Peter doesn’t regenerate since the Haitian is not around.

Cut to Hiro and Ando who are still trapped in Level 5 trying to find a way to escape Hiro and Ando’s rift keeps growing between them and they start arguing about how Ando could kill him in the future. This is only driving their friendship further apart.

We then turn to Nathan who is still talking to Mr. Linderman who would appear to be a ghost that only he can see. I suspect he is a ghost rather than a figment of his imagination because he can provide Nathan with information that Nathan doesn’t know in his own subconscious. He confronts him and asks what Mr. Linderman is a telepath? Mr. Linderman eludes that he may be an angel, and Nathan doesn’t buy it. Mr. Linderman still sells Nathan on being Senator and then President and Nathan shrugs him off.

Maya and Mohinder are back at his lab where Maya is trying to cleanup the mess that is left behind. Maya doesn’t at first realize what has become of Mohinder, and he snaps at her in anger after she tries to show him affection, he apologizes but she still walks out. He confirms in his voice recorder that the formula is transforming him into something, that his aggression is growing.

The scene then fades to 4 years into the future, where Present Peter arrives at Mohinder’s future lab. Which appears to be deserted and abandoned, except for Isaac’s paintings from the past. We see Future Mohinder in a shadow and cloaked ask Peter for what he wants. Mohinder is now horribly mutated and his skin appears part insectoid, Peter inquires about Sylar being the only one who can help him. Peter reads the location of Sylar from Mohinder’s mind, and then teleports away.

Peter then arrives in a house where Sylar appears to be cooking for a boy, and the boy calls Peter uncle. Peter at first has blue flames erupting from his hand as he prepares for a fight. Sylar comes up to Peter and embraces him in a friendly gesture, this leaves Peter stunned. The boy asks uncle Peter where his scar in and this clues Sylar in to realizing that Peter isn’t Future Peter. The go into the other room to talk and Sylar says that they are Brothers, and that he can’t and won’t help him. Peter is trying to take Sylar’s ability but they don’t say what ability it is yet. Sylar says my name is Gabriel, and he explains his ability turned him into a killer and he tries to fight it every day. Peter explains to Gabriel that the world is gonna end and tells Gabriel to paint it himself.

Fade to see Matt Parkman in the Future with Daphne, and Daphne is asking Matt to use Molly to find Peter. Matt loves Daphne and their baby Daniela, and he tries to convince her not to try and look for Peter. Matt finally breaks down and lets Daphne work with Molly to discern Peter’s whereabouts. Daphne tells Claire that Peter is with Sylar, Claire is partially afraid, and Knox feels her fear.

We turn back to see Gabriel and Peter standing as Gabriel tells Peter to fix his watch to unlock his ability. Peter uses his telekinesis to move the gears and bend them back into shape and repair the watch which he does in less than a minute. Gabriel informs Peter that he now has Sylar’s ability. We see Claire, Knox and Daphne in the kitchen holding Sylar’s son hostage. Peter tries to reason with Claire who still fires the gun, Peter who absorbed Daphne’s ability runs faster than the bullet and throws Claire back. Knox attacks Sylar and Peter is engaged fighting Daphne.  As Knox throws Sylar back through furniture,  Sylar’s son Noah is killed by the furniture crashing into him.  Sylar rages against Knox, while Peter throws Daphne against the wall. Sylar then loses control and starts to go nuclear, Peter rushes over to him but is unable to stop Sylar from exploding like a nuclear bomb that wipes out several miles.

We come back from commercial break to see Ando and Hiro still trying to escape the cell, where Hiro still distrusts Ando. Ando after taking a belt from Hiro manages to open the vent. Ando tells Hiro to escape and doesn’t offer to go with him saying he doesn’t want him around. Hiro asks for Ando’s help lifting him up toward the vent. Hiro tries to apologize to Ando while Ando is lifting him to the ceiling vent, Hiro just arrives at top when they spot the Haitian in the room.

We now turn to Tracy who is feeling guilty for killing the reporter and tries to call to turn herself in, but in her fear she freezes the phone solid and drops it. She collapses sobbing..

Mohinder is still working in his lab and discovers he can’t reverse the process and remove the ability from Maya or himself, he leaves a sticky substance behind on his desk after putting his hand on it. (Very similar to the Fly), meanwhile a knock on his door from the abusive boyfriend/husband from earlier and he comes in and punches Mohinder. Sylar grabs the person and yanks him into the apartment and the scene ends there.

Tracy arrives at Nathan’s office and hands in her resignation to Nathan, after she leaves Linderman tells Nathan that he must help her. Nathan arrives just in time to save her as she jumps off of a balcony in a suicide attempt. He catches her mid air and flies her away. We arrive back from commercial at Nathan’s place with Tracy where after realizing Nathan can fly, she shows Nathan her freezing ability. She is so enamored that he wasn’t freaked out by what she saw she embraces him. We see Nathan and Tracy addressing the media.

Present Peter is at the Morgue lying next to Future Peter’s corpse. His abilities are nullified due to the Haitian, she explains that 200,000 people were killed by Sylar exploding. She then cuts peter with a scalpel on the chest, she cuts him again across the chest. Nathan arrives and interrupts asking to speak with his brother alone. Nathan frees Peter and explains he knows what Peter is trying to do. Nathan explains that because of the bomb, congress agrees to inject everyone and grant super powers to everyone. Further explaining how Peter’s meddling has once again made the future worse. Nathan invites Peter to read his mind, but Peter is unable to.

Peter uses Telekinesis to choke Nathan and he explains to Nathan that even though he believes he is doing the right thing he is doing the wrong thing. Peter then feel’s the hunger to feed from his brother, and he starts to slice his brother’s head. He teleports away after stopping himself. He arrives in current Sylar’s cell in the present and attacks him, pins him up against the wall. Sylar realizes he has the hunger and has become like him, Peter refuses to admit it.

Back from commercial we see Matt Parkman and Molly watching the aftermath of the bomb at Costa Verde, where they both realize Daphne is gone. Daphne arrives back home and explains she wasn’t fast enough, where you see her back severely burned by radiation, she falls into Matt’s arms and he awakes from his vision. He recognizes the painting of him holding Daphne and he asks the African for assistance, he explains that Matt must find his spirit guide, his Totem. The visionary tells Matt to think about his dream and he will find his guide, we then see the Tortoise walking in the desert again, and it would seem Matt has a connection to the Tortoise.

Angela Petrelli interrogates Hiro to learn that Hiro let the formula fall into enemy hands. Ando stands up for him and says they will find the formula. Angela explains that they are being manipulated and that Hiro is the only one who can find out who is manipulating them. The then arrive at the graveyard where Hiro buried Adam Monroe, he opens him up inadvertantly to have Adam Monroe attack him. Then To Be Continued is Displayed.

This episode is even more frantic than the previous three and the sense of urgency is palpable.  There is almost too much going on from scene to scene I almost crave some of the slower character development from Season 2.  Still it leaves me intrigued and hungry for more, and I take quite a bit of re-watching and re-analysis to absorb what I have just witnessed and try to make sense of it all.

It would seem that there are 2 types of Hiro’s in this world:  Those “Born” that way, and those “Created” from drugs or genetic tampering.  Traci is an example of genetic tampering.  The whole “Us” vs “Them” in the future seems to be from Natural Mutants to Artifical or Manufactured Enhanced Humans.  Again, it has a very X-Men feel to the show and it did from the start.  The whole evolution producing Mutant genes is almost directly in line with X-men, the fact that random abilities show up based on someones unique genetic code is also parallel to X-Men.

It is interesting how Peter now absorbed Sylar’s ability to understand anybody elses ability, but in gaining that ability he also suffers from the hunger to feed and steal other’s abilities.  Sylar himself barely has control over the hunger yet and Peter must have Sylar help him learn to control the hunger.

Angela Petrelli continues to manipulate everyone she contacts and manipulates Hiro into freeing Adam Monroe and you know no good can come from this.

Should be very interesting next week, it always is.
