HootSuite Offers New URL Shrink Option
Hootsuite which is one of my favorite Twitter clients released an update which allows users to choose which URL shortening service they prefer. The traditional ow.ly URL shrinking service which used to put a toolbar at the top of compressed links and show the Ow.ly link instead of the full URL the user was on now has been changed to be a lightweight redirect instead. No more toolbar for all ow.ly links, it is just a redirect to your original uncompressed URL (but you still get all the click and stats tracking).
Hootsuite now offers the Ht.ly URL compression which has the toolbar and will show up in Google Analytics as a referrer but won’t redirect the user to the full URL in the address bar. Ht.ly is really the new Ow.ly with Ow.ly being the one that changes to a more traditional redirect like Bit.ly.
When you sign into Hootsuite you will be offered the choice of picking which URL compression service you prefer to have the default in Hootsuite:
Coming soon though, Ht.ly will be offering branded toolbars, where you can get your own company branded toolbars for Ht.ly which is even more valuable and something I am interested in.
What do you think of the change to ow.ly or ht.ly options?

I was a bit skeptical about URL shortner links at first but as most of them are 301 redirects you should be ok.
