How to Make Your Blog Stand Out
With a million new blogs emerging every single month, competition gets tighter and tighter. Great content can now be found all over the web, no matter how small the niche.
And when creating good content is all you care about, you might want to rethink your situation. If 120 blogs have the same awesome content as you, why should I read yours ?
Because you have a voice that no one else has.
Ask yourself – what’s different about you ?
If you need more than 5 seconds to answer that question – you’re already deep in crap. The ship’s moving, but downwards.
Don’t shoot yourself yet – if you’re hungry and passionate enough you will find a way, because you always do !!
I want to share some of my favorite ways of standing out from the crowds – choose or lose !
- Have a kick-ass logo ! I mention that many times, because it’s a vital part of spreading your personal brand. The blog you’re currently reading has a distinctive dragon symbol – how many blogs do you know that have something even remotely similar ? I can’t give you one. Don’t underestimate that power. You may forget some posts, but a unique logo stays with you, long after you left the blog. Your memory craves pictures, and let’s use that for your success. Either create your own logo or hire someone who can do it for you. It’s essential.
- Go a little extreme. And I mean that in a creative way ! I use oversized pictures, invent my own word combinations and have a blog design that looks as if it has been drawn through a melting candy shop. I think it’s awesome, and people notice the difference. Find your own interests and/or foibles and STRETCH them !
If you like the color pink, consider using it all over your blog. If you’re foul-mouthed, foul it up ! Whatever you have, go a little extreme with it. It’s fun and makes you stand out from the digital crowd.
- Find your unique voice and strengthen it . No matter how many people read your blog, pretend there’s only one hardcore fan – and s/he’s absolutely obsessed with your writing style. Now this fan will only stay with you if you keep staying true to your style – no censoring or wishy-washy-ing allowed ! Picture this fantasy fan whenever your style turns bland and unoriginal.
- Use your personal trademarks – CONSISTENTLY ! Recognition value is the alpha and the omega in the web galaxy – branding every digital step you take can be one of your greatest assets. I do this by inventing my words, putting my beloved logo on my pics and making sure that every post and comment smells like my writing style. I want my brand to be easily recognizable, and if you want to make a real splash in the web world, you must do the same.
- Always put your own spin on things. It’s tempting to repeat what A-list bloggers have to say, but unless you put your very own flavor on it, leave it out. With sooo many billion blogs out there, do we really another bland one ? I don’t think so, this life time is too short for that. If you have to report something, then make sure your opinion is visible. The Ipad launch caused many bloggers to blog about it, but after 1,000 posts, the message wears out. Do us all a favor – and go for your own flavor

Providing value and presenting it in your unique way is a gateway to success, and it’s a fun ride too !
