I want to take a post out of my normal technology and entertainment category to say that I want to give my support to everyone in this economy who is having a hard time. Especially those who are displaced by the Auto Industry issues and must now desperately seek retail jobs and compete against hundreds of other people applying for the same positions. I live in a small city in Casa Grande and recently I did apply for some part time positions and never even received a call back. The reason is because there are far too many people and not enough jobs especially in the sector where more people need them most.
All you can do is put your best foot forward and avoid filling out applications online, instead dress up and go down to the store in person and ask to speak with the manager directly. Have the manager give you an application and use this opportunity to make a good impression, anonymous applications online are not going to win over the local person who has to choose who to hire. When dozens of people all have the same qualifications, you need something extra to stand out from the rest.
This can only be done in person and face to face. So put your best face on and give it your all, show the company in the first 5 minutes why you should be hired over the next candidate on the list, and don’t get discouraged if the first three or four positions aren’t handed your way. Perseverance is key, and if you think it is something about yourself get people to give you honest feedback on how you come across and try to rectify if you are not articulating yourself properly or not presenting the right demeanor.
I sincerely wish the best of luck to everyone trying to find work, or struggling to make ends meet. Because 90% of us are all just 1 paycheck away from losing everything and we should be here to support and help each other because that is what makes people great and sets us above the rest.
