I don’t like the default wordpress.org blog authoring ability, it is tedious, the autosave makes me lose my place in my post all the time. Inserting images and media is quite tedious. So I have decided to test out a freeware blog authoring software. wbloggar version 4.03 is the software I have decided to try out.

This is my first post with it, so I will give initial impressions. It has all the same buttons and abilities as a standard blog authoring but it is faster, and sits on your desktop. In fact this is mobile / portable code so it can be downloaded and put on a USB key and plugged into any machine you work on, and you have instant access to your blog authoring software. This is an incredible feature. You can type dozens of posts and just keep them queued and stored and upload them later.

To enable your wordpress blog to support such a “remote publishing option” You have to open your wordpress wp-admin and click on “Settings” -> “Writing”
Then you have to make sure XML-RPC is check marked.

When you execute the w.bloggar program it will ask for your credentials to your blog and the path to the xmlrpc.php file. This was just in the /xmlrpc.php for my site, unless your blog sits under a URI and not located at the root of your website, this URI should work for you.

I thought this was a neat option for writing posts when I am not online, or when I am on the road or airline with my laptop.

You have to click on the more tab to enter keywords, and the Category drop down is in the top right. It does download your categories from your wordpress blog and let you select any existing category you have listed.
