Opera Mini A Solution To My Blackberry Problems
Posted by: dragonblogger // Category: Internet, TechnologyMy new blackberry had trouble getting the Blackberry Browser to work, it just didn’t allow me to open any sites and nothing I do, downloaded or configured would work. I was never really a fan of the Blackberry Browser anyhow, was just figuring I was stuck with it. I found online the Opera Mini browser has a version for the Blackberry and proceed to download it for my PC and transfer over and install it via the Blackberry Desktop Manager.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how poweful and full featured this browser is. Whereas the Blackberry Browser would cut out certain images, scripts and backgrounds, the Opera Mini browser displays all of my web pages in full clarity zoomed out, but then you can zoom in to any specific portion of the page and use the 2,4,6,8 keys to navigate around the page pretty rapidly. The sites look amazing on the Blackberry screen and the only thing I think is a slight issue is web sites tend to take longer to load than the Blackberry Browser on my old Blackberry.

With the ability to import bookmarks, save new bookmarks, zoom in and out, in addition to scrolling around I would recommend anyone using a Blackberry to ditch the default browser that comes with it and give Opera Mini a try instead. Or, if you like something else let me know, I am always curious to know what other software is out there for Blackberries that I haven’t stumbled across yet.

Hi: I have a MotoQ and was using Opera Mini until I found Skyfire. Skyfire is unbelievable and totally eclipses Opera IMO. I have no idea whether Skyfire supports BB, but it would be worth finding out.

I did some digging and found out that for now: Currently Skyfire runs on two phone platforms. Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 (3rd edition), so I don’t have a phone to test it.

Here are the only instructions I could find for you to deal with this:
1. Install the software from the CD (that you received with the device), or download it from the service provider (AT&T).
2. Delete or rename the vendor.xml file, here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader (you’re windows file options needs to be set to ’show system files’, to see said file…
3. Open Desktop Manager (DM)…
4. Connect the Red Pearl (since am sure that’s what you have!)…
5. Doing this will force the pc to see the BlackBerry as new hardware, and thus force it to reload the Operating System (OS)…
6. During the process, select YES to do a backup…
7. The whole process should take about 30-45 minutes…
