Like most people with the economy taking a hit this year funds for holiday gifts may be tight. As a result not as many people will have the money to purchase all of their holiday shopping needs all at once. Fortunately Kmart Lay-Away may be a solution instead of running up deep credit card debt. With Kmart you can go to the web site and find out which stores offer Lay-Away in your area.
For those of you who don’t know what Lay-Away is here is how it works:
Lay-Away is the ability to put a small percentage down on a product you wish to purchase, the store will hold the item for you and you can make payments every week until you have purchased the item. This allows you to reserve your item with little money down assuring that you are guaranteed to have it by Christmas. This would be a great thing to do for people who want to buy Nintendo Wii’s or other Holiday Sell out items. If you don’t have enough money to purchase a Nintendo Wii outright this very minute, go to your nearest Kmart and put usually 10% down, so for a Wii only around $25 and you are guaranteed to have a Wii this Christmas as long as you pay off the remaining balance in the next six weeks.
Here is the Wii I would purchase for my friend:
Kmart has a great advantage by providing Lay-Away as the store carries such a diverse array of products you pretty much can do all of your Christmas shopping now and then place it all on Lay Away and make payments over then next six weeks to have it all paid off in time for the Holidays. This prevents you from having to charge up your credit cards and you can just allocate a portion of your paychecks every week or two weeks to pay for your holiday gifts.
As mentioned above Lay-Away is a smart option for reserving and making sure you get the “popular” gifts this season and if you don’t have enough money to purchase them in full now, but you had planned to purchase them by next month.
So go to the website and read the easy 5 steps and put in your Zip Code to find the nearest Kmart Lay-Away store near you.
Here is a screenshot of how it looks:
I encourage everyone who has specific holiday gifts in mind but doesn’t have the funds to procure them at this time to consider Kmart Lay-Away as one of the best options to ensure you will be able to purchase the item you were hoping to get this holiday season.

layaway is a scam. most people that use it end up not being able to afford it anyway.

Layaway can be useful under certain scenario’s:
Example: Payday is only the 19th of December, you don’t have money to get alot of gifts, but the money you do have is going to be in that paycheck.
You know you are getting a wii or wii fit as a gift for someone, but these will likely be sold out close to xmas. So you can put $30 down early, and then pay the rest off with the 19th paycheck, or risk not finding the gift you were and want to get.
