This is especially true with commenting on other bloggers sites, many of them will return a comment and some will in fact return to your site and comment back as courtesy. This also serves to benefit you as well, if you leave a clever and worthwhile comment you may actually get some other readers who notice your comment to see what else you have to say and visit your site as well.

Don’t be rude and don’t post links back to your site, if bloggers wanted to link back to your site they would use commentluv already. You could mention that you wrote a similar post or mention it, but wait for the hosting blog to ask for the link, instead of trying to post one in your comment or it could likely be marked as spam. One exception is if you are showcasing or mentioning another blogger on your blog or in your post, in these cases I think it is appropriate to leave the link back so the hosting blogger and readers can see where you mentioned them.

I try to leave at least twenty comments per week on other blogs, and I really wish I could do at least fifty. I don’t leave useless comments either, I try to add value to the article with my commentary. I do appreciate everyone who comments on my blogs, but I do have some people who only leave two or three word comments and usually its the same comment several times in the same week.

Remember that just because you are “anonymous” or not in-person, you have to be a social butterfly if you are to be a successful blogger. You need to make your presence known and much like in any industry where you have to network with other professionals you do this by visiting other bloggers and making your presence known by commenting, reading and participating on other blogs.

Take the time to network and you will start seeing some recognition back, but make sure that your blog is already established and has a fair amount of articles of decent quality before you start this social endeavor. Nobody will promote a poorly written blog that is nothing but advertising and/or has very poorly written articles.

Quality begets quality.
