Best Google Chrome RSS Extension

By: dragonblogger  //  Category: Internet      //  12 Comments »

Having switched from Firefox to Chrome as my primary browser last week I have been more productive due to Google Chrome performance being outstanding. However one lingering problem occured in that when I tried to check my own blog feeds by hitting http://www.dragonblogger.com/feed for example there is a Google Chrome RSS issue where it instead will spit out raw XML data instead of properly displaying the RSS feed like FireFox, Internet Explorer or Opera. You don’t have this problem when going to a Feedburner feed and I saw it primarily with WordPress blog feeds.

This is what the output looks like if you go to one of my wordpress blog feed URL’s directly with Google Chrome:

This has lead me to do some querying and I came across one of the most important extensions for Google Chrome is the RSS Subscription Extension which allows Google Chrome to render and display your WordPress blog or other RSS feed inside the browser properly.

The RSS Extension for Chrome still doesn’t allow you to manually hit the dragonblogger.com/feed/ URL but instead when you are on any main page in a blog site now that has a feed, you will see an RSS icon at the top right of the URL bar. Select this icon and it will properly render and display any of the RSS feeds offered by that website right in the Google Chrome browser.

Results of RSS Feed with the Chrome RSS Feed Extension:

Bottom Line

If you need to read RSS Feeds in Google Chrome and check your feeds often, the RSS Feed Chrome extension is extremely useful and highly recommended. This Chrome Extension is the best one that I have found to fix RSS issues in the Chrome browser.

Which is the Fastest Internet Web Browser?

By: dragonblogger  //  Category: Internet, software      //  25 Comments »

What is the fastest browser for surfing the Internet?  Don’t take my word for it, one of the latest browser speed tests from ExtremeTech shows that Opera 10.5 (though Opera 10.6 is even faster) has slighty faster website rendering performance than any other browser with Google Chrome being second and Safari just trailing behind Google Chrome.  The overall reason why I chose to switch to Google Chrome as my default browser however is that Google Chrome has a much faster start up time than Opera and has a much smaller memory footprint, though I must admit I use Opera 10.6, Google Chrome and FireFox 3.6 almost every day on my computers for one reason or another.

I wrote an article on one of the many reasons I chose Google Chrome instead of FireFox but the primary reason was because Firefox was just rendering web pages too slowly and even with Fasterfox and all the about:config tweaks I could implement, I could not stop the browser from crashing repeatedly over some sites and consuming over 700MB of RAM if I worked on the browser for more than four or five hours.  Google Chrome is much leaner and when testing the same addons for Firefox on Google Chrome I noticed virtually no performance degradation on Chrome when those same addons would noticeably slow FireFox down.  A good test is for you to test the SEOQuake plug-in for Firefox and Chrome and you will see a prime example.

If you are looking for the fastest web browser on the Internet, you will have to look no further than Google Chrome or Opera 10.6 which are both the fastest browsers on the Internet according to ExtremeTech which is a highly reputable technology website that I go to read trusted reviews and product tests.

Which is your favorite browser and why?  Note:  I have high hopes for Firefox 4 and would like to see Mozilla back on top.

Dragon Blogger uses a New WordPress Theme

By: dragonblogger  //  Category: Internet, blogging      //  7 Comments »

In an ongoing effort to troubleshoot my Internet Explorer woe’s, I have chosed a new theme.  However, being that this theme has the same exact problem where the side widgets and columns do not display in Internet Explorer 6, 7 or 8 Beta 2, this means there is nothing was wrong with the original theme.

However, I like this new theme better anyway so I am going to stick with it.  It took me some time to customize the php code on the right, and I still need to finish getting all my social buttons and advertisements resized to fit in the columns properly.

What do my readers and fellow bloggers think of my new theme?  The name of this Theme is “Black Abstract 2.0

Let me know what you think of my new redesigned blogger page, and if you like it or dislike it, I was trying to go for something a little more clear, but the font is a little hard to read for me.  Let me know if you think I should change the font type to something more clear.

Any feedback is always appreciated,

-Dragon Blogger

Daily Reflections blog writes about my new wordpress theme and agree’s that the font is a little difficult to read especially when italicized but provides positive feedback on the rest of the site.  This is a nice review thanks for taking the time to analyze my site.

Internet Explorer has always given me trouble with my WordPress Theme and Plug-Ins

By: dragonblogger  //  Category: Internet      //  24 Comments »

I just am pulling my hair out, one of my friends visited my blog today and told me they can’t see any side columns with Internet Explorer.  I only use Firefox, so when I opened my Internet Explorer 7 I was shocked to see that all of my side widgets don’t show up at all in IE6 or IE7.  Literally my RSS Feed Subscription, my Google Adsense, my Entrecard button, nothing shows up in Internet Explorer.  70% of users still use Internet Explorer, so does this mean 70% of the people visiting my site can’t see these widgets and subscribe, or email, or drop me on entrecard?

This is what people are getting when they try to hit my site with Internet Explorer:
badiepage

But Firefox renders the site just fine, even the new Google Chrome browser has no problems with my side widgets and ajaxified WordPress Blog.

Chrome Renders Widgets Fine

  • So the troubleshooting begins as follows:

I logged into the WordPress Site and disabled 80% of my widgets, saved and tested Internet Explorer again.  No luck, I can’t get any side widgets to work.  This makes me think that one of my plug-ins is the cause of my woes.  So I logged back into wordpress and decided to systematically disable 1 plug-in after another.

After disabling and testing something like 25 plug-ins I still can’t get my site to render properly in internet explorerer.  I am at my wits end here.

Does anybody know of specific plug-ins or widgets that break your wordpress theme or blog for Internet Explorer?  Does the “Diary” Theme for wordpress not work for Internet Explorer from the start?

This made me start to think, I am sure other bloggers starting their first wordpress or blogger accounts had similar issues.  I remember when I had a blogspot account that my google adsense widget wouldn’t show the google ad in firefox, but only showed it in Internet Explorer.

Man, I wish all browsers would render stuff the same way.

Please share your blog setup and configuration horror stories and problems and how you resolved them.  If someone can give me the correct suggestion to fix my WordPress Theme in Internet Explorer, I will gift you 50 EC’s from Entrecard.
