In fact I have never even bothered to open my Firefox except maybe 1x per month when debugging my website or testing it for multiple browser compatibility.

As a web site owner, I often have to make sure my site operates on every browser you can think of and even with the market % being so small you have to make sure your site loads properly and quickly. I have tested with Opera, Chrome, Firefox 6, IE9, Safari, Rockmelt (Chromium based) and several mobile browsers. iChromy for iPad for example is another Chromium based browser.

In fact, if you look at the last 30 days traffic on my site you will see out of 87,032 unique visits that 27,997 were from users using Google Chrome! Firefox comes it at #2 with 26,251 visitors while Internet Explorer is 16,001.

As my site primarily appears to bloggers and tech enthusiasts this would show you that most savvy internet folk have already made Chrome the dominant browser of choice. Oddly enough I don’t know what Android Browser is, I thought Android only used a version of Chrome by default.

Mozilla Compatible Agent must be something like Flock browser I would imagine.

Have you looked at Google Analytics to see what browser type makes up the majority of your visitors? Share your stats here with me, tell me which browser type most commonly visits your site!

-Dragon Blogger

<hr \> Google Chrome To Hit 2nd Most Popular Browser in 2012 is a post from: Dragon Blogger Technology and Entertainment Copyright 2009 Justin Germino. This means in 1 year Google Chrome has expanded to where there are nearly as many functionality and feature addons and enhancements as Mozilla Firefox.

This is a signal just showing how rapidly Google has taken the Chrome browser with updates every 6 weeks Chrome is releasing more major versions with enhancements and features in a pace that Mozilla Firefox cannot apparently keep up. Google has the muscle to address and fix bugs, vulnerabilities and at a lightning pace and we continue to see security vulnerabilities found for Firefox though I feel that Firefox is still a larger target for exploitation than Google Chrome.

This will change as Google OS takes foot and Google Chrome continues to increase its market share of the web browser space, by bundling the Google Chrome OS into Android and Chrome Operating systems they will place a foothold that Mozilla has not had much luck in and that is getting the browser to be the default install on an Operating System.

I for one am almost completely using the Google Chromium based browser, though I am using RockMelt almost exclusively now as the search bar and RSS feed integration are better than any extensions I can find on Google Chrome itself right now. RockMelt is based on the Chrome 8 and is kept updated to match Google Chrome browser version releases. Fortunately most Google Chrome extensions work just fine on RockMelt, but there are a few that can give trouble (I myself haven’t found any, but I have read reports on them).

Google Chrome for me is the fastest internet browser and utilizes less memory than FireFox, when the browser does crash (rarely) only a single tab crashes and never does it impact all the other tabs in the same browser window. The only crashes I ever see occur typically have to do with opening PDF files inside the browser or occasionally hitting websites with heavy scripting.

I did have high hopes for Firefox which is going to be releasing a browser that completely changes the way we view web pages and we will no longer see traditional tabs and “pages” the way we do now, but I am not sure if this innovation will be enough to stop the Google machine from consuming market share in the browser world. What I am surprised at is that Microsoft Internet Explorer is still so dominant because it is the default operating system on Windows machines, despite that it is among the worst browsers (IE 9 however does much better than previous versions) I still find it renders CSS poorly in many cases on certain websites.

Out of the next generation of browsers which is your favorite? Have you taken a look at the 10,000 Google Chrome Extensions yet? Anything you could be looking for you can find, by the way an extension called Docs PDF/PowerPoint Viewer solves the PDF crashing issue and works with RockMelt as well as Google Chrome.

-Dragon Blogger

<hr \> Chrome Browser at Ten Thousand Extensions is a post from: Dragon Blogger Technology and Entertainment Copyright 2009 Justin Germino. One such day was when I woke up to the newest technology called HTML5. And here I am to give you some insight about the new born child in the world of web.

As we all know HTML5 is the latest version of HTML / XHTML and in the wake of its existence all the outdated web browsers that couldn’t support it are now forced to update themselves to fit into its new standards.

Mozilla and Google were the two amongst the first browsers to do that, duly followed by Opera, IE and Safari. Google was the first one though to release one that supported quite a few (not all though) tags of HTML5.

While IE has been lagging behind in the race to impress its users, Google and Firefox are way ahead and the war has already begun to clinch the pole position.

Now that the race has begun, Chrome seems to have gained lot of ground when compared to Firefox. When Firefox was way ahead after releasing its Firefox4, Chrome was in its build stage with Chrome4, but now though the tables have turned and Chrome is already on its way to release the stable version of Chrome 7, whereas Firefox4 is still way behind in testing its Beta 6.

Below research should help in giving you some idea where the browsers stand at this point.

Google’s Strategy and Chrome versioning

The hot news that’s doing the rounds in web circle is that Google has adopted a new strategy with Chrome Browser, which means we will now be seeing a new face of it once in six weeks. Now having said that, does that mean we are going to be seeing Chrome 9 by the end of this year? The answer is “Hell , ya.”

As I said before, Chrome 7 beta is on live and Chrome 8 is available as latest build. Wait there, they aren’t done yet, Chrome 9 build has already started and we are expecting Chrome 8 beta to be out this week.

Anthony Laforge, Technical Program Manager from Mountain View had recently said,

We’re 41 days away from the branch point for mstone:9 and we have 1236 open bugs, at the time of this note. Given our open and close rates we will need to punt approximately 956 bugs in order to be ready for 9.0 which as a rule of thumb mean 4 out of every 5 bugs we have needs to be moved out.

Eye-catchers:

Integrated Instant Google search

HTML5 updates

GPU acceleration

And going by what Anthony had said it seems like Chrome 9 will take more days and may go live only by end of 2010 or early 2011. (That isn’t too late…is it? J)

Firefox 4 and its Never Ending Delay!

One side we see Google Chromium team is fully pumped up and going smoothly with their strategy whereas on the other side Firefox team is working really slowly towards Firefox 4 release ( it reminds me of the Rabbit and Tortoise story, and you know which one is the rabbit and which one is tortoise, don’t you? J )

How much so? Well, they are lagging by over a month now (and still counting). According to the official schedule Mozilla should have shipped the seventh revision of Beta on September 17th, then Beta 8 on October 1st, and have the first Release Candidate (RC) by October 15th. Obviously, October 15th has come and gone but there’s no Firefox 4.0 RC to speak of.

There are also quite hefty volumes of work still to be done For Firefox 4.0. Just 10 days ago, Mozilla noted that it still had to resolve 17 blockers just to launch Beta 7, and over 510 blockers to get from Beta to RC. In total Mozilla needs to resolve some 901 blockers in order to wrap up Firefox 4.0 and have it delivered to end users.

Eye-catchers:

Chromicised and more browsing space.

Faster than old versions

Tab Candy feature

What else to say? Firefox is well behind its schedule and Firefox 4.0 will be out by end of 2010 or early 2011 (what a joke…. U got to be kidding me)

Hot on the plates,

Chrome beats other browsers in HTML5 test!

Firefox scored less in its own Kraken JavaScript benchmark

Chrome 8 beta and Firefox 4 Beta 7 are releasing this week.

Conclusion:

Having said that all, the big question that still stands unanswered is, who will win this war? (I can hear someone saying its Chrome, well not yet, it’s a crazy world out there and anything can happen over a cup of coffee). But there is no answer for this. All browsers are unique in their own way. But with the release of Firefox 4 and Chrome 9 already, users are in a dilemma on which one to make as their default browser.

Which browser are you going to use? Will Chrome steal Firefox users or Firefox continues acquiring more space? Share your thoughts and let’s fight it out in the comment box below! Cheers!

<hr \> Browser War: Firefox 4 Vs Chrome 9 Release is a post from: Dragon Blogger Technology and Entertainment Copyright 2009 Justin Germino.
