Furthermore, smartphones have made social interaction much easier since they are readily available for pictures, videos, and status updates. While these innovations have helped connect millions people who would have never met otherwise, they provide for distractions for professionals and academics finishing up their master’s degree programs while fumbling through poorly-designed apps. If this phone is actually in development, we should expect to see a fully Facebook-integrated phone which cuts out many bugs that current phones have when running buggy applications.

Despite the failures of earlier devices, rumors have surfaced that Facebook is allegedly working on their own brand of smartphone that will integrate heavily with the social network. HTC is rumored to be the manufacturer, which means the phone will likely run a modified Android kernel as its operating system. HTC is a logical choice, since they use their own modified version of Android (SenseUI) in its devices running Android’s operating system.

The main benefit of the phone is that if created, it’s possible that it could serve up Facebook apps in the form of HTML5. This means highly popular games like FarmVille and Mafia Wars could find their way into the mobile marketplace and could potentially only be available for those who own the rumored Facebook phone. With a highly modified version of Android similar to what both Amazon and Barnes & Noble have done with their respective tablets, it’s possible that the Facebook phone, dubbed “Buffy”, could succeed in a niche market composed of power-Facebook users.

Of course, when asked by Mashable, neither Facebook nor HTC would comment on the rumors that surround the mysterious phone. Given the course of current HTC phones, it’s likely that the phone will be in candy bar form and will feature nVidia Tegra 2 graphics in order to process the graphics-heavy applications that are available on Facebook. With no further details, the Facebook phone is an unconfirmed rumor until HTC or Facebook decides to release more information.

Now, many have asked why Facebook should make a phone when some surveys have shown that only 7% of users would be interested in a phone made by Facebook but if you do digging on the subject you will see “Why Not?” is the more common answer. With Windows mobile phones about to gain ground and Google Android phones likely to have Google+ communication built in, if Facebook doesn’t partner to make their own phones they could lose market share in the mobile space. Also Facebook is looking to branch out and make themselves a portal to get to anything else on the web, their application integration space is still among the largest and greatly exceeds Google+ applications.

So what do you think, would you buy a Facebook phone? Is there a market for it?

<hr \> Is Facebook Stepping into the Phone Arena? is a post from: Dragon Blogger Technology and Entertainment Copyright 2009 Justin Germino. Not to be left behind, LG has launched its dual-screen delight, LG DoublePlay in a bid to push the industry standards. The T-Mobile powered LG DoublePlay uses Android 2.3.4 (better known as Android Gingerbread) and an upgrade path to Android 4.0 (or Ice Cream Sandwich) is unclear as of now. Irrespective of the OS upgrade availability, the LG DoublePlay’s decent screen size, high resolution display, and single-core 1GHz processor make it suitable for work as well as entertainment.

The DoublePlay offers a quad-band GSM support with dual-band 4G UMTS/HSPA+. The 1.5Ah lithium-ion based battery is expected to last for 3.3 hours of talk time and over 10 days in standby mode. As compared to other smartphones, the LG DoublePlay is slightly heavier and thicker due to an actual pull-out keyboard, which however makes it more comfortable to use. The DoublePlay has 1GB of inbuilt memory extendable with microSD cards up to 32GB.
As the name suggests the LG DoublePlay is named after the unique dual screen feature. While the primary display, which is relatively small, only a 3.5-inch screen with low-res (480 pixels by 320 pixels) and secondary 2-inch display (320 pixels by 240 pixels) in the slide-out QWERTY keyboard are individually unimpressive, together they enable to user to focus on the primary app while having another screen for shortcuts to other apps . Other than the major apps, the secondary screen is also used by sub-sets of complex events like the Calendar app.
The secondary screen splits the pull-out keyboard in two and despite early apprehensions makes for better typing habits using both hands. For those more comfortable with on-screen typing, a SWYPE gesture based shortcut is also available.

The LG DoublePlay™ comes with a decent 5MP camera for still photos and 720p HD video recording. With an inbuilt flash, zoomed-in as well as macro (magnification = 1) shots are greatly enhanced. The DoublePlay offers Bluetooth, USB and Wi-Fi 4G hotspot and also supports voice calls routed through WiFi networks, referred to as WiFi calling.
The LG DoublePlay dual screen smartphone is currently available for $99.99 only along with a 2-year contract with T-Mobile.

<hr \> LG DoublePlay Dual Screen Android Smartphone Launched with T-Mobile is a post from: Dragon Blogger Technology and Entertainment Copyright 2009 Justin Germino. This portable technology has been transformed by smart phone innovation, and there are no boundaries on what these new phones can do. Most of them are sleek and attractive, but many of them require cases. There are other phones on the market, however, that are rugged without any accessories.

Sonim XP1300

Sonium XP 1300 Core

The Sonim may not be as well-known as the iPhone, but it is definitely known among users that look for rugged phones. It has even been stated that this phone is certified as a device that passes military standards. Notifications for Those of Us on the Move" width="253" height="115" title="SMS Notify! Notifications for Those of Us on the Move" />Hey there. Are you a forgetful Jones like myself? I tend to forget a lot of things. Doctor’s appointments, school events, birthday party times and location, and even outdoor chores. If I don’t have that calendar in front of me I’m going to forget my to do list for the day and let’s face it, we just don’t see people walking around with calendars. That’s why I love the SMS Notify! service from CDYNE.

The way it works is fairly simple. The CDYNE SMS Notify! API is a 2-way International SMS Gateway that sends text messages directly to your cell phone carrier. This makes it a cost efficient way of sending out a single reminder or serveral reminders at once. Using an extremely simple application, you can enter the phone numbers that you would like to send the notifications too and add the event, time, and date, or whatever other important information you see fit. No more will I forget that that plants will need watering at 7PM Tuesday evening!

SMS Notify! is not just for reminders, though. Those of us in the political field could send out reminders to vote, school administrators could advise parents of an emergency or school events, church leaders could remind their patrons of the time and location of their next fundraiser event. The list can really go on and on about the possibilities of a service such as this. A very simple concept with endless capabilities. Head on over to their site and try out the live demo and see first hand how the application works and once you’ve decided to really give it try, get a trial key and get 50 free notifications. It’s an awesome service and definitely worth a try. Later!

<hr \> SMS Notify!
