The mobile development industry has evolved faster than most people can fathom.  Just to clarify exactly how quickly mobile development has emerged as a global giant, consider first the major players on the internet that reached multi-billion dollar market caps within a ten-year span.  These generational giants sparked by the web revolution include eBay, Amazon and Google, which remain to this day online forces to be reckoned with.  Now, consider the mobile giants Facebook, Groupon and Zynga, which have also reached multi-billion dollar caps just like their predecessors, but only in half the time.  There is no doubt that the mobile development market is booming and that it is here to stay.

Just as the internet once changed everything about businesses, so will mobile development for quite some time.  Think about it – would your boss from a decade ago allow you to bring a mobile device or tablet (assuming these existed ten years back) into work?  Probably not, yet today the use of mobile devices is encouraged in most internet technology industries.  In fact, companies can grow even greater through mobile development than they once did through the internet.
Before we delve deeper into mobile development, let us first remind ourselves of the evolution of the World Wide Web.  It seems the internet evolved in three main phases – exploration, acceleration and innovation.

During the exploration phase we watched as companies began placing their brochures on the web.  When acceleration kicked in, companies demanded customer interaction via the web.  To accommodate these needs, we figured out how to make information accessible on the web such as bank account balances, driving directions and more.  Innovation helped companies bring customers something invaluable, most notably the ability to purchase products through catalogs over the web.
Companies are now looking to evolve their mobile development as strongly as the web once evolved.  Fortunately, this is already happening.

Like their predecessor, mobile apps began with informative and entertaining brochure apps.  Next, we built the engaging mobile apps that utilize technologies including social media, cloud computing and location-based GPS tracking to completely transform company relationships with customers.  While the evolution is somewhat similar, mobile development will bring a complexity that the internet never could.

When you build a website, it runs on a computer.  Whether you have a PC or Mac, the site is designed the same way.  In the mobile development industry, multiple platforms exist.  You know these as the iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry and Windows platforms – you probably even know that the iPhone is the most popular.  Building mobile applications across a variety of platforms will bring even more customizable solutions designed to transform the industry once again.  It is only a matter of time before we stumble across the next big evolution in internet technology.
