The PayPal of Twitter
I recently read an article about TwitPay a website which allows you to send people money directly to their twitter accounts, much in the same way you can make email payments to people via Paypal.
Twitpay payments are transacted through Amazon Payments which adds crediblity and legitimacy to the service as well as assurance that your money goes where you intended it to go. Twitpay actually stores your pledged payments and tracks them until you choose to settle up. They make their share by charging .05 cents for each pledged payment of $.99 or more.
It works like this:
You send a promise for payment somebody with a tweet like @dragonblogger twitpay $5 for wordpress plug-in, then this record gets logged by twitpay and you can settle it via the Amazon Payment system.
This allows for online auctioning of items on Twitter, as well as for people to advertise stuff for sale on twitter and is actually a really good way to turn twitter into kind of like a real time craigslist.
It is a clever idea, and one that may find itself to be quite popular and prominent as companies, marketers and sellers leverage twitter to advertise and sell their products.
