Tweetdeck 0.3 release has a few immediately obvious features like the “clearly” visible “compose update” button, the ability to drag and drop URL’s and images directly into your update window, and the greatest feature which is automatic shrinking of URL’s as you type or cut/paste them. Tweetdeck version 3 also has a feature now where if your message is over 140 characters, it simply will not let you try and send the tweet. This helps prevent tweet truncations though it does take some extra time to shrink some of your retweets to fit in the context.
