Why WinAmp is my Favorite Mp3 Player and iPOD Management Program
The version of WinAmp I am using is 5.53 and I must say this is easily my favorite media player. I use it to manage my entire MP3 library and it searches the songs very quickly. You can also select multiple tracks and auto complete the metadata which is 99% accurate. I know iTunes has many of these features as well, but the interface for winamp is simpler and easier. The separate Playlist editor, where you can simply select your songs, and right click and select “enqueue in winamp” and it adds to the playlist.
When managing your iPOD, you can add, delete, create playlists all forms of media directly to your iPOD. You don’t ever have to worry about managing AAC files, WinAmp will work directly with the raw mp3 files back and forth on your iPOD or Mp3 Player.
WinAmp will also rip CD’s to Mp3′s and burn MP3′s to Music CD’s for you with ease. The only thing WinAmp doesn’t do nativly is display album cover art, but there are plug-ins that you can download to add this feature. WinAmp also can’t catagorize mp4 files for your iPOD, you cant mark one as TV Show and another as Music Video. But this is a minor complaint since I mostly just put clips for watching them on a flight and delete them later, never storing anything long term on my iPod Nano.
WinAmp does have a free version you can download, but I recommend purchasing the full featured version. You get lifetime updates and all the codecs, rip, burn and other functionality is unlocked and supported. You can also skin your winamp to look however you want it to look, it also takes much less space on the desktop than iTunes and you can only show the modular components you want to see, like just the player part, just the playlist, just the library section…etc.

I use Quintessential Player (QCD), as alternative. Lightweight design, low memory consumption, CD ripper, save skin layout, remote skin (save desktop space), better sound quality than WinAmp(!), imho! U can google it name to find.
