Would I Blog Without Earning Income?

I was asked by fellow blogger Klaus over at techpatio.com if I didn’t make any money from blogging, would I still be blogging?

The answer requires a little bit of detail.Â I did start blogging just over a year ago with the intention to try and earn a small 2nd income from it, but after blogging for a few short weeks I had realized how much I enjoyed doing it.Â When I was able to turn my unpublished poetry book into a blog and have people from all over the world read and appreciate my poetry, this solidified my desire to blog even more.Â I would run my primary three blogs and help my wife out with her blogs even if none of the blogs earned money.

I would probably stop my experimental blog projects, and I wouldn’t feel obligated to write content every single day if I wasn’t earning from my blogs.Â I would definitely trim back from about 15-20 hours per week to only about 5 hours per week blogging if I wasn’t doing it for money.

Bottom line though is blogging has become an enjoyable hobby for me, I find that my “gaming” time is what suffered most.Â I used to spend 1-2 hours a night playing Guildwars, Runes of Magic or my Nintendo Wii and now have replaced that time with blogging.Â For some reason I want to blog more than game lately, and now I don’t really game nearly as much except with my kids.Â So if you had to say which was my primary hobby, it would be blogging.

I first started blogging with the hope of earning extra pocket money. After months of doing it, I was like get addicted to it and can't stop blogging.
I currently own 5 blogs of different topics. I really do enjoy blogging like you do.

I use WordPress.com and I'm not making any money from blogging now (unless I win Extreme John's contest, LOL) so you already know my answer. It is my favorite thing to do. I should start making some money one day soon though!

I love blogging too and at first I was earning but there were months that I don't earn even a single penny then I realized that blogging is not really a good source of income but just a hobby.

Blogging is really fun when you love writing about something you love. I know some people that enjoy blogging and aren't making any money (I'm not even sure they know they can make money off of it) and they keep at it because they love it.

For me however, I don't know that I love writing a blog as much as reading other people's blogs.

Maybe if I actually had the time to write I would love it as much as many of you do. :)

Sometimes I can only write new posts 1 or 2 days a week, I just write enough to fill all 7 days worth. I maintain 3 primary blogs, so I have to churn out 21 blog posts per week, and so far I manage to keep it up. Even with working a Full Time job.

Funny you should mention gaming - I looked at my PS3 a week ago and I couldn't remember last time I had it turned on, I haven't played at all in the 2.5 months I've been blogging - well except for 1 hour of Wii bowling when I had friends over.

To me that is like saying "When will you stop collecting shells on a seashore?" They will always be there as money will always be somewhere in blogging. I guess if I get sick of it, I will quit. I will always make money at it unless the physics of seashores change dramatically. Then I'll probably look for something else ;)
