Are you already a Sprint customer?  Then there is an app you need to know about for Sprint Total Equipment Protection subscribers.  This application is for Android, Blackberry and select feature phones and is capable of:

  • Locating Phone if Lost
  • Syncing Phone contacts
  • Locking your phone
  • Sounding an alarm
  • Wiping your phone remotely

The application is the Sprint Total Equipment Protection App and you can get up and running at no additional cost if you are a Sprint TEP customer already.

Normally a customer only has access to register to TEP within the first 30 days of activating their phone, however for a limited time and only until August 30th 2011 if you are a Sprint customer you can add the Total Equipment Protection program to existing phones.

See why you need Equipment Protection for your phone:

The TEP program costs $8 per month and with the application allows you to find your phone, lock it remotely, wipe data from it in case of emergency or even file a claim if your phone can’t be found or recovered.  This can potentially allow you to completely replace a lost smartphone that may cost $400+ for only a $50 or $100 deductible.

I accidentally left my phone in my car a few years ago and in Arizona in a car with the windows closed the internal temperature can become over 140 degrees.  My phone LCD screen burst and wouldn’t display anything anymore and I had to shell out nearly $300 to replace my blackberry at the time.  This would have been a good situation to have had a Total Equipment Protection plan in place.

If you are already a Sprint customer, remember that you only have until August 30th 2011 to enroll in the TEP program for an existing phone so if you want the added security features and benefits I would suggest you enroll right away.
