For many people with busy lifestyles, their phone is their window to the world. You can be using it to generate more B2B sales. You may be trying to build your brand, so when it goes down you’re going to run into problems.

For example, a business working on selling a structured settlement for cash can’t lose access to their phone during a big marketing campaign. Yet that’s what happens with this error. It will come in the form of a warning window that states ‘Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped’.

It’s infuriating and it has been a serious problem with Android for some time. It’s not uncommon to see Android taking a hit to their reputation because of it. This guide is going to show you how to get rid of this error.

Understanding the Problem

You’ll always see the error after installing a new ROM or allowing your firmware to update itself. Most digital experts agree that this happens because the error message is being triggered either by the SIM toolkit application or the phone itself. If you’re getting this message all the time, there are a number of fixes you can implement to get rid of it.

The good news is this isn’t an issue with the phone itself. You’ll never have to trade it in and you can fix it at home with limited technical experience.

Step 1 – Clear Your Cache and Phone App Data

Begin by going into your ‘Settings’ section. In here you should find a section labeled ‘Apps’. Keep clicking through until you see a list of all the apps installed on your device. You should find your phone within this section. It may be a general term like ‘Phone’, or it could be the model number.

Android phones consider the phone itself as a type of app. You should tap the relevant app and press the ‘Clear Cache’ option.

But what if the error is still there?

This can sometimes happen. You can try repeating the same steps again and pressing ‘Clear Data’ instead. After you’ve done this you should reboot your phone. If the problem continues to persist you know the phone isn’t generating the error message.

Step 2 – Clear Your Cache and the SIM Toolkit’s Data

For this step, all you have to do is repeat all the steps in the previous step. The difference is instead of choosing ‘Phone’ you would choose ‘SIM toolkit’ from the list of apps. If the first step didn’t work this one should because now you’re targeting both of the main culprits behind this error message.

Again, reboot your phone and see if the problem has disappeared. If it hasn’t you’re going to have to get a tad more creative.

Step 3 – Use Custom Recovery

For this, you’re going to have to install AROMA file manager. It should be the latest version and you should visit the XDA website to find it. With this piece of software, you can delete the cache/temporary folder of your phone, and you can clear the SIM toolkit app in the same way.

This tends to be a complete removal of data, which may delete some temporary files that weren’t deleted before. Some users have reported that this has worked where the first two steps haven’t.

Step 4 – Try a Factory Reset

Rarely will the problem persist to this stage. If it has your only option is to backup all your data and perform a Factory Reset. Make sure you backup your data in multiple places first because when you do this there’s no going back.

Start by shutting down your device normally. Then you need to hold the Volume Up, Power, and Home keys together. Hold them down until the phone vibrates. After it vibrates you can let go of the Power key. Your fingers should still be holding everything else down.

You should keep holding until you see the Android logo appear. This is the Factory Reset and you can connect your phone and add all your files back. Nobody has reported anything other than this working to cure the problem.

Last Word – An Ongoing Problem

Sadly, there appears to be no way to fix this problem for good. Android has never released a statement acknowledging the problem, which is a basic business mistake. Their tech support team has only said to follow the steps listed above. It seems to be an issue with every model that comes out.

The good news is it has never been easier to actually solve this issue. You don’t need to know anything about how or why it happens to fix it.
