DJI recently launched its new and most powerful action camera: the DJI Osmo Action 6. As technology experts, we are here to help you get familiar with everything new this camera brings and whether it’s truly worth upgrading or waiting a little longer.
After much speculation regarding the sensor type and improvements to the stabilization system, we can now bring you 100% verified information. The Action 6 was officially announced on November 18, 2025, and is set to be the star camera throughout the coming year, 2026.
What’s New?
1/1.1″ Sensor with Variable Aperture
One of the main and most significant improvements is the new 1/1.1″ sensor, a major leap from the 1/1.3” sensor in the DJI Action 5 Pro (approximately 40% larger in area). With a larger sensor, users now benefit from greater light capture, which helps during daytime recording, but the greatest potential will be in low-light conditions like dawn, dusk, and night.
The f/2.0 – f/4.0 variable aperture is another important improvement over the fixed f/2.8 aperture of the Action 5 Pro. Thanks to this system, it is now possible to adjust the amount of light entering the lens based on the scene, you can open it to $f/2.0$ to maximize light in dark situations, or close it down to $f/4.0$ when you are recording in very bright environments.
4K at 120 fps
This isn’t an entirely new feature, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro could also record at 4K 120fps but what has improved is the maximum resolution obtainable when using the Super Night mode. In low-light scenes, DJI allows users to activate a mode that considerably enhances illumination in these environments, now achieving 4k 60 fps.

Up to 4 Hours of Continuous Recording
DJI batteries have significantly improved compared to the competition. With the included rechargeable battery, the DJI Osmo Action 6 can offer up to 4 hours of recording before needing to be recharged again. Furthermore, DJI has made improvements to increase battery life in extreme conditions, such as in temperatures as low as −4 °F (−20 °C).
Other Important Features of the DJI Osmo Action 6
- Up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range
- 50 GB of internal memory
- Front and rear OLED screens
- Improved RockSteady with greater stabilization
- Waterproof up to 20 m (65 ft) without a case
