Amazon has introduced its new Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, a 12-inch tablet that runs Android with access to Google Play and features its Alexa+ AI assistant. It also comes with a high-resolution display and two different versions, a standard model and a Nanomatte edition, each with some important differences.
So, let's take a look at its main features and what you should know before buying one.
What's new?
One of the biggest upgrades is that you can now install apps directly from Google Play, including YouTube, Gmail, and Google Docs. This is a major change from older Fire Tablets, which relied on Amazon's own app store.
It also features Alexa+, which lets you have more natural conversations with the assistant and get help with different tasks. However, some of these features require an Amazon Prime membership or a separate subscription.
The 12-inch display has a resolution of 2800 × 1840 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, allowing you to enjoy sharp images and smoother scrolling.
How much does the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro cost?
You can currently choose between the standard version, starting at $499.99, and the Nanomatte edition, which starts at $549.99. The latter features an anti-glare coating that can be especially useful when reading documents or using the tablet in brightly lit environments.
Another important difference is memory. The standard version starts with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the Nanomatte edition offers configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both feature an aluminum body and a battery rated for up to 16 hours of video playback.
Is it worth it?
I think this is a major step forward in terms of app compatibility. Amazon has moved away from its old, limited operating system, so you can now download many more apps through Google Play. This makes the tablet a much more practical choice for professional use.
So, if you're looking for a tablet with significantly more power and flexibility than older Fire Tablets, this could be a solid option worth checking out.
