As someone who spends a good amount of time exploring the Rocky Mountains, I’ve run into the problem of a cell phone with no power more than most people. Although I had heard of solar chargers, I couldn’t find one to commit to. I wanted one that was small and easy to carry, because the last thing you want to do is add a ton of weight to your back as you’re hiking.
Choetech is here to change that. Few things are more exciting for outdoor enthusiasts than being able to access electricity off-the-grid and the Choetech solar charger and backpack kit will make that happen. Even if you don’t want to be connected to the world, sometimes you want to charge your camera, rechargeable lamp, or anything else you like to carry.
  • Up to 24W of power
  • Charging speed of 2.4A per USB port or 4A if using both ports

  • Folded Size: 260mm*160mm*40mm
  • Can charge two devices at once
  • Portable
  • Can attach with carabiners to anything
  • Comes with solar charger, backpack, 4 carabiner clips, and 1 USB charging cable

Overview of the panels:

  • Can charge two devices at once
  • Can be attached anywhere with the included carabiners
  • Easily attaches to backpack for on-the-go charging
  • Light and folds up to fit in almost any backpack
  • Water-resistant

These solar panels are great and charged a phone quickly. Keep in mind, I’m in Denver and according to research, “UV exposure increases somewhere between four to 10 percent for every 1,000 feet above sea level.” (Source.) I’m not sure if that fact alone changed the charging speed, but it’s something to consider. They were incredibly easy to use. You just fold them out and plug into the USB. Simple and easy, the way technology should be.

Overview of the backpack:

  • Water resistant
  • Folds back up into an on-the-go pouch
  • Has clips to attach to the solar charger

This backpack is not ideal for any long hiking trips, but it would be perfect for any day hikes or trips where you don’t need a lot of gear. It wouldn’t really hold up with any heavy gear inside of it, since there is little support in and around the backpack. That’s probably the only downside, so if you plan to pack light this will work.

However, the cool part about the backpack is that you can fold it in and out of itself so you can turn it into a small pouch for easy travel. The backpack isn’t necessary for the charger, and vice versa, so you can take what you need depending on the day.

Overall, I couldn’t really find any flaws in the Choetech solar panels or the backpack.

I received this product at a discount for the purposes of testing it and reviewing it.  All opinions expressed are truthful and 100% my own.
