The two friends founded Esports Arena as a gaming platform for amateur players. At first, they struggled to get the right venue for the organization. But, Jack Jakosky, the owner of the Santa Ana building, accepted their pitch and offered to lease the property to them.
The two video game enthusiasts took a Small Business Administration loan and checks from family and friends to lease Santa Ana for ten years. They renovated the building and opened it on October 3, 2015. It hosted the Hearthstone tournament that had a $20,000 prize pool. Despite hosting major esports leagues, Santa Ana is a popular gymnasium that provides passes and memberships to inexperienced gamers.
CyberPowerPC, Corsair Components, and Eizo gave Paul and Tyler advanced gaming equipment when they opened the Santa Ana building. It comprised 64 Xbox consoles and 130 computer stations. They wanted to live stream amateur competitions daily. Tyler told The Los Angeles Times that they are selling an experience rather than internet time.
