The PS5 remains one of the most popular gaming consoles with only a few months left in 2026. However, considering that its price has been increasing, it is worth asking whether it is still a good investment, especially when we look at the number of exclusive games available for the PlayStation 5 so far.
Some of the Games Released for PS5 by 2026
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Demon's Souls
- Returnal
- Ghost of Yōtei
- Astro Bot
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Stellar Blade
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- Silent Hill 2
- Final Fantasy XVI
- Rise of the Ronin
- Gran Turismo 7
The PS5 is still a very capable console, but to some extent, it increasingly feels like a less worthwhile purchase when you could spend a little more and get a mid-range gaming PC that should, in theory, deliver similar performance and even better results in certain games. This is without even considering everything else you can do with a PC. Gaming isn't the only thing it can be used for, and that is definitely worth thinking about carefully.
Currently, the PS5 Digital Edition costs around $600, while the PS5 Pro goes for approximately $900. That is a significant price difference, which is precisely why I am questioning whether it is worth spending that much on a PS5 in 2026.
To be honest, the disc version really doesn't seem worth it. Unfortunately, by 2028, Sony will stop producing games on disc, meaning players will only be able to purchase them digitally through the PlayStation Store.
That said, there are still some great upcoming releases coming to the PS5 over the next few months. Here are some major upcoming games:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23, 2026)
- Phantom Blade Zero (October 29, 2026)
- Grand Theft Auto VI (November 19, 2026)
- Forza Horizon 6 (January 26, 2027)
- Until Dawn 2 (January 28, 2027)
- Persona 4 Revival (February 2027)
- God of War: Laufey (February 16, 2027)
- Fable (February 23, 2027)
- Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember (March 2027)
- Final Fantasy VII Revelation (April 8, 2027)
Of these titles, Grand Theft Auto VI is by far one of the most anticipated games among PS5 users. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for someone to buy the console just to enjoy a game that fans have been waiting more than 10 years to play.
So, is it worth It?
Personally, if you have the budget and genuinely enjoy video games, I wouldn't rule out buying a PS5. It's true that its price has increased, but it still has plenty to offer, and there doesn't seem to be any shortage of major releases coming in the near future.
However, if you want a PS5 that will serve you well in the long run, I would go straight for the Pro version if you can afford it. This is especially worth considering because upcoming major AAA releases may demand more resources, meaning the standard PS5 could have to sacrifice some graphical quality to maintain performance.
