Although artificial intelligence has not been an active part of our lives for the past century, that has not kept it off the big screen during that time. Humans have been imagining the ways AI will become integrated into our daily lives for years.

Its first appearance in film came nearly 100 years ago in the form of a robot takeover in Metropolis, a 1927 German silent film. Since then, AI has evolved into a major player in the movie world. This tech has evolved into robots as sophisticated as the one portrayed in Ex Machina and has become so ubiquitous as to be a part of the Disney collection in movies like Wall-E and Big Hero 6.

These movies have given us every possible outcome of AI’s assimilation into our everyday lives and have ranged from portraying artificial intelligence as public enemy number one to a heroic influence who saves mankind from impending doom.  Which side are you on?
