SmartOmi brings a powerful speaker to a little device. Most of us like to have music on the go, but finding a speaker that delivers a quality sound can be hard. This speaker makes it easier than ever. Let’s break down all the different aspects.
The Sound
The first thing that amazed me about the SmartOmi speaker was the sound quality out of such a small speaker. This thing is small, smaller than my iPhone SE. It fits in almost any pocket and has a nice strap for carrying. Given its size, you’d think it would have a weak sound quality, but that’s not true at all. Instead, it has a booming sound and a deep bass. The sound is better than some standing speakers I have in my apartment. It uses 5-watt drivers and copper coils along with a passive radiator to produce such a loud sound. Even when it’s at full volume, it doesn’t get that buzz that other speakers get when they’re that high.
Along with being able to play music well, you can also hear voices clear. The only sound problem I found was when the audio cord is plugged in. Sometimes that causes a little static for a few seconds.
Another slight downside I found was when the audio cable is in, you can only stand it on its side or flat back to play music since the insert is on the bottom of the speaker. That’s a minor issue, though, and not worth deducting any points for such a minor issue. Mentioning the strap, I’m not sure if it’s genuine leather, but it either is or it’s something similar. It’s very durable and could last a long time. It doesn’t fit around a wrist, but I attached it to a carabiner and was able to hook it to almost anything.
Along with sound output, it also has a microphone inside so you can answer and talk during a call.
Battery, Charging, and Distance
It takes about an hour and a half for the SmartOmi speaker to fully charge, but then it can work for up to 12 continuous hours. That’s pretty impressive for such a small device. The speaker can be 33 ft. from the device and still play music. The speaker comes with the charging cord and an audio cord.
Waterproof and Protection
The SmartOmi speaker has a waterproof rating of iPX7. According to the IEC, the 7 level means, ““ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1m of submersion)” (Source). That means it can be submerged for 30 minutes before having a problem.
The outside of the speaker has crash protection from 3 meters, so if you do drop it, it’s likely to survive.

Overall, the SmartOmi speaker is an incredible value if you’re looking for a small, powerful speaker on the go.
