This great game already has 84 fighters and four more are planned to be added in the near future. Sometimes, it seems like players from the community enjoy discussing every potential new SSBU character almost as much as they enjoy actually playing Smash Ultimate. And you know what? It’s a very interesting conversation, so why not join it?

Of course, the developers created two great options for those who want to see that guy or that girl in the game – you can collect their spirits or use fancy costumes for Mii Fighters. But still, this is definitely not the same feeling as opening Smash news and seeing that your favorite game hero joins the battle.

Everyone is here

Nintendo can’t add to Smash Ultimate everyone from their own vast heritage. And they certainly can’t do this with countless franchises of the whole gaming culture. They kept their promise to add all the characters from the previous Super Smash Bros. games and then managed to expand the roster even further.

Here is the list of new fighters in Smash Ultimate – you can’t find them in the previous installments:

  • Daisy and Piranha Plant – from Super Mario
  • King K. Rool – from Donkey Kong
  • Ridley and Dark Samus – from Metroid
  • Incineroar – from Pokémon
  • Chrom and Byleth – from Fire Emblem
  • Isabelle – from Animal Crossing
  • Inkling – from Splatoon
  • Min Min – from Arms
  • Ken – from Street Fighter
  • Simon and Richter from Castlevania
  • Joker – from Persona
  • Hero – from Dragon Quest
  • Banjo & Kazooie
  • Terry – from Fatal Fury
  • Steve/Alex – from Minecraft

Since the release of SSBU in 2018, players got eight DLC characters: Piranha Plant, Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, and Steve/Alex. Who could be next?

New DLC fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The most accurate way to predict who will be a new character in SSBU is to say – anyone. Really, Nintendo guys keep their secrets very well, so the reveals of Min Min (Arms) and Steve (Minecraft) were surprising and because of that especially exciting. The SSBU community could wait patiently for the official announcement, but that wouldn’t be the SSBU community we know (and love) – players start sharing their guesses and weirdly looking leaks of new fighters a day after the previous one was revealed.

The most popular theories (or dreams) are:

  • Sora from Kingdom Hearts

There are so many fans of this franchise, and recently the Nintendo Switch owners got the possibility to play the new game Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. Why not deepen this success?

The rumors about adding Sora to SSBU burst with new power after a recent leak – someone uploaded a few photos of a game screen with fights of Sora vs Incineroar. The leak was seemingly debunked, but people still want to believe it.

  • Crash Bandicoot

This guy is one of the most popular characters in the gaming culture. Crash games were very popular on the original PlayStation, and in October, we got an absolutely new adventure – Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

Smash fans want Crash for ages. There is no real evidence that this is happening. And of course, there is no proof that Crash is not joining Smash.

  • Geno from Super Mario RPG

It is hard to believe that players consider this character a decent competitor to other heroes in our list. But Geno is kind of a dark horse – and probably a secret weapon of Nintendo.

He was present in only one game, Super Mario RPG. Somehow, the fans want him in Smash, and Nintendo even created a Mii costume of Geno for Smash Wii U. And a few months ago, GameStop threw a bomb – on a video, a girl said: “I mean, there’s a reason that everyone was freaking out when Geno was announced for Smash!” No one has announced Geno, so it’s quite suspicious.

  • Alfonse from Fire Emblem Heroes

Someone might say that we have enough characters from Fire Emblem, but the franchise has even more great personalities – each game of that series invites players to a new story. Alfonse is a hero of Fire Emblem Heroes, a free-to-play installment that brings Nintendo quite a lot of money on the mobile market. It would be a clever business decision to promote it through Smash (and Smash through FE Heroes).

  • Master Chief from Halo

Microsoft and Nintendo have good relationships (not to the point of having Nintendo games on Xbox though). The Ori games were released for the Switch. Banjo & Kazooie with Steve/Alex joined Smash.

Master Chief is the main hero of the iconic shooter Halo. With Microsoft preparing the release of Halo Infinite, it’s easy to assume they would use any promotional tool – if Nintendo agrees.

  • Dante from Devil May Cry

This guy could be an awesome Smash fighter. Players have wanted this to happen for so long, and it’s not the first time the Nintendo game got a Capcom character – we already have Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter.

Dante is a very good fighter indeed. He has lots of cool weapons and techniques to bring into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

  • Rayman

It seems like Ubisoft, the developers of the Rayman games, want to forget about this guy. And it’s super odd – he would be a great hero for a game with Mario (in addition to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle). And he would be a great melee fighter in Smash Ultimate as well. The hearts of many fans are still waiting for this announcement.

  • Gen 8 Pokémon

This franchise is the most profitable for Nintendo – the company sells many copies of Pokémon games but earns even more from toys and other official products (it’s so hard to stop yourself from purchasing that cute fluffy Pikachu).

Smash already has quite a few creatures from different generations of Pokémon. Gen 8 is the newest one, it’s from the games Pokémon Sword and Shield, released in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch. That would be awesome to see tighter connections between these franchises.

  • Ramirez and Jonesy from Fortnite

It’s another win-win addition to the roster. Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world with a huge fan-base. And Smash is not a small fighting title at all. So, both developers will get the attention of a big audience.

Ramirez and Jonesy are experienced fighters – you inevitably develop such skills in a Battle Royale game. Someone should probably take guns away from Fortnite heroes, otherwise, the fight in Smash matches will be too short.

Both characters can be added quite easily – Smash Ultimate has a few fighters with similar abilities but different appearances. Steve and Alex from Minecraft are just different skins of one character.

We are not talking too much about various leaks that happen on Twitter and Reddit almost daily. Most of the time, it’s just the vivid imagination of gamers or a way to attract attention. Our list is based mostly on the wishes of the community.

And what about you? Who is your perfect new DLC character in Smash? We still have four slots left – one of them may be for your hero!
