Previously, I wrote an article about some of the most interesting artificial intelligences of the moment. This time, I’ll talk about a topic I covered in that article: video generators. These are powerful tools that allow you to create videos from just written instructions.

This is a truly unexplored market, as it is not as polished as image generators. However, many companies are already starting to compete reasonably well. With the release of Sora by OpenAI sometime this year, some alternatives are already available. So this time I’ll present some of the most used video generators to date; all of them offer at least a free trial with no subscription obligation, but you might consider a subscription if you really like the results.

Kling AI

Kling AI is a powerful video generator from instructions. It can create anything from animations to videos with realistic people. New users receive free credits that are enough to generate about 7 videos daily. However, the free credits have some limitations; for example, they only allow for 5-second videos compared to the 10 seconds you can get by subscribing to a plan, which also offers advanced results. Kling AI also includes an image generator.

Luma Dream Machine

Luma Dream Machine is the only AI on this list that I couldn’t try, as there is a waiting list for those who want to use it for free. It was a bit disappointing not to test the free version, as many popular videos on social media seem to be created with this AI. According to the description, Luma Dream Machine is trained with advanced technology, allowing for ultra-precise details in videos. I would recommend signing up and waiting to be accepted, but you can skip the waiting list by subscribing to any of the plans.

runway

runway is a different type of video generator compared to the others mentioned. To generate videos, you need to add an image, so this AI works to animate images from a photograph. It’s quite amazing, as it can make two people start dancing even when the actual photograph shows no movement. New users receive about 525 free credits that they can use to generate videos. Unlike Kling AI, runway allows for 10-second videos with free credits. It’s pretty easy to use; you just need to add an image and then add a description of what you’d like the AI to integrate into the video.

What do you think of these AI? They seem to promise great advances, so it wouldn’t be surprising if, in the future, they become good enough to be used in the film industry for creating animations and even special effects in movies. However, it seems there’s still a long way to go, as even the most advanced models tend to maintain odd movements. Perhaps Sora, designed by OpenAI, might correct these errors, but it will definitely take more time to polish video generators.
