Hundreds of games come out each year for all the different platforms that are available today, but only a few manage to garner the attention that every title seeks. So, which games did manage to get the most attention and critical acclaim from gamers this year? Let’s find out now.
Fortnite and PUBG
Right now, the competitive gaming world is divided between two online shooters and they are called Fortnite and Player Unknown’s Battle Grounds (PUBG). While both games share the same basics, there’s a big difference in presentation and the art style, which is why they appeal to different types of players, although, there’s little doubt that a lot of the players play both games. In case you are wondering why PUBG and Fortnite were put together on this list, then that’s because of the fact that both of them are battle-royale multiplayer shooters from different developers that have more in common than their respective fan bases would ever admit to! Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout officially joins the competition soon and we shall see how it will rank and stack against the leaders in this market.
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World was released on consoles earlier in the year to positive reviews from all over, and given the series’ popularity, it sold pretty much as expected. Then Capcom released it on the PC in August and that sold tremendously well too! However, porting issues related to performance on the PC has kept Monster Hunter: World from becoming the masterpiece that it was on the consoles. Nevertheless, Monster Hunter: World is not just one of the best action-adventure games released in 2018, but it is also one of the most played games of the year so far as well. For a game with a very similar play style you can also check out Dauntless which is under a free to play Open Beta where you team up with other players to bring down elite Monsters and upgrade your gear.
Crypto Gaming
The first half of 2018 had been a crazy year for those that deal in cryptocurrency, with the likes of Bitcoin and Ethereum reaching unprecedented highs at one point before coming down again. Once things started to settle down a bit, crypto gaming became one of the most popular online gaming habits for people keen to try their luck at a popular crypto casino. While there might be variations, the basic idea is that you win and lose all your bets in cryptocurrency, or more specifically, Bitcoin and Ethereum. Online Gaming earns millions of dollars and between mobile and casino apps the traffic and number of people playing worldwide is staggering.
God of War
When one of the most loved gaming series of all time makes a comeback after eight long years, you know that it’s going to end up as being one of the most popular games of the release year, and God of War (2018) did exactly that. Furthermore, it also turned out to be one of the best games of all time, once again! As Kratos shifted to murdering and endangering the entire Norse mythology in this fourth installment, the game turned out to have a surprisingly emotional tale-powering the bloody adventure this time around.
There are some gems that are coming up in the next three months. These include Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and, of course, Red Dead Redemption 2, among many others, so it is expected that the top five list will change again and soon.
